Ten Yuan Year-End Bonus: Dissatisfaction Of Hongda Shoes Employees

Yesterday morning, hundreds of employees gathered at the gate of Hongda Shoes Co., Ltd. in Jitang community, Shihua Road, Huangpu District, Guangzhou. According to a number of workers, they went on strike because "they often work overtime. In previous years, we still have 10 yuan of year-end bonus every year. This year, the boss is so stingy that he doesn't pay any year-end bonus." On the morning of that day, the local labor department has intervened in the investigation. "Even the 10 yuan year-end bonus is gone." at about 10:00 a.m. yesterday, the Times reporter arrived at the door of Hongda Shoes Co., Ltd. after receiving the report, more than 200 shoes factory employees in blue uniforms gathered at the gate of the shoe factory, most of them were women. According to one of the female workers surnamed Li, an hour before the reporter arrived, there were more employees around the factory gate. Later, the factory decided to give workers a holiday for fear of making a big deal of things. Many workers had left. Miss Yao, a worker's representative, said that in the past, the factory held new year's dinner for employees before the new year's day, and held some activities such as guessing riddles and drawing prizes during the Lantern Festival. However, since the construction started on the sixth day of this year's new year, the shoe factory has basically cancelled the welfare of the past Chinese New Year. Even after the end of the year, there is no year-end bonus. Ms. Yao told reporters that before that, on behalf of some employees, she had asked the factory for compensation for overtime pay and employee benefits, but the factory has not been able to give any explanation. The reporter learned from the workers that, according to the practice of previous years, Hongda shoe factory generally pays the year-end bonus according to the length of service of its employees at the end of each year. According to the standard of 10 yuan per year, the workers have basically not received the year-end bonus. Overtime work has become a "home cooked meal". Usually, there is no overtime pay for hard work, and now there is no annual bonus of 10 yuan. " Miss Zhao, a piecework worker, angrily told reporters that they would work overtime when the factory was rushing goods. Only three or four months of a year would not work overtime, and other hours would basically work overtime. "When working overtime, they usually go to work normally during the day. At night, they have to work overtime from six or seven o'clock to eleven or twelve o'clock, and they only have one day off on weekends. The overtime time is far beyond the provisions of the national labor law. We usually work overtime outside the working hours in the factory according to "public holidays". On the evenings from Monday to Friday and on weekends, the management staff clocked in the overtime work by "public holidays". As a result, we did not even pay the original overtime allowance of 2 yuan per hour. This is totally inconsistent with the labor contract signed by the factory with us Ms. Zhou, a piecework worker, said that according to the Convention of previous years, they should have received the 2008 labor contract at the beginning of the year, but the previous labor contract clearly stated that the normal working hours of each week would not exceed 40 hours, and there would be overtime pay for overtime work, but in fact, they did not get the treatment stipulated in the contract. The reporter learned that Hongda Shoes Co., Ltd., located in Jitang industrial village, is a Sino foreign cooperative enterprise. At present, there are about 1500 workers, mainly producing various shoes, shoe materials, sports gloves, etc. After the incident, the local labor bureau, judicial department and street office rushed to the scene and asked the factory to negotiate with the workers' representatives immediately. The reporter tried to enter the factory to interview the person in charge of the shoe factory, but was stopped by several security guards. After waiting for more than an hour, the reporter had to leave contact information and ask the security guard to transfer it to the leader of the shoe factory. However, up to the deadline of this newspaper, the reporter has not received any phone call from the manufacturer. At present, the labor department is still in the process of further mediation.
