Bangladesh Strike Seriously Affects Clothing Export Activities

Bangladesh opposition party BNP (Bangladesh National Party) launched a strike on April 2012 28-29, causing at least 4000 containers to be cleared and arranged daily.

4000 containers, equivalent to 60 thousand metric tons of cargo, are all stuck in Chittagong, Bangladesh, and each 40 foot container costs 12 dollars per day.

About 2200 trucks carrying goods were also affected by the strike and could not arrive at their destinations on schedule. Most of these trucks carried ready-made garments to be exported.
