Garment Manufacturing In Pakistan Looks Forward To EU Free Trade Policy
It is understood that in the first 10 months of this fiscal year (July 1, 2011 ~2012 June 31st), Pakistan textile Export volume showed a downward trend, weaving export volume fell 15%, knitwear fell 26%, bedding decreased by 20%.
In order to restore the economy that had been battered by the flood disaster in 2010, the Pakistan government had earlier proposed a free trade proposal to the European Union. The Pakistan garment manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) recently expressed its appreciation for the efforts made by the government to offer free trade preferences (ATP) to the EU and hoped to implement relevant agreements on free trade preferences at an early date.
Pakistan Garment manufacturing Attic, President of the association of exporters' Association, said that promoting free trade with the European Union made the textile industry in the poor condition see a glimmer of hope, because it will spanform into a business opportunity in the textile industry and bring employment to many people.
"We very much hope that the European Commission will pave the way for the free trade agreement between Pakistan and the EU, which will bring more vitality to Pakistan's textile and garment industry, provide employment for the country and bring about a certain amount of foreign exchange earnings," attic said. Attic said that by seeking free trade instead of seeking aid, the government of Pakistan has taken measures in the right direction, and with the efforts of relevant departments, it will soon inject positive impetus into the country's economy. Attic stressed that it is necessary to set up a working group to track and monitor the problem and ensure the final implementation.
It is understood that in the first 10 months of this fiscal year (June 31st July 1, 2011 ~2012), Pakistan textiles Export volume showed a downward trend, weaving export volume fell 15%, knitwear fell 26%, bedding decreased by 20%. Meanwhile, textile exports in the first 10 months of this fiscal year in Pakistan also fell by 10% over the same period last fiscal year, and the decline has exceeded $1 billion 100 million. To alleviate this situation, the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association asked the government to pay attention to the difficulties faced by exporters and the decline in textile exports, and immediately took measures to allocate 30 billion rupees.
In addition, the association also proposed that the protective tariffs on imported imports should be abolished, such as sodium hydroxide, filament yarns, dyes and chemicals used to manufacture export commodities. This can reduce the production cost of exporters, and in terms of exports, it is more competitive in terms of price compared with regional competitors.
