Exclusive Interview With Menswear Designer Craig Green
First contact
Craig Green
This name is introduced by a designer friend. The odd tailoring of his MA graduation series, such as the projected print patterns and the boxes that he wants to travel far away, is hard for me to forget. I didn't expect to see the new series of Craig in the exhibition of Fashion East less than half a year after graduating from the graduation Series in February. 2013 of the spring and summer series is a continuation of his graduation series. Let Craig introduce herself to everyone.
Can you introduce yourself?
I am 25 years old and live in the northwest of London.
Men's wear
Designer.
What is the learning life in Central St Martins? Are there any specific differences in the course of BA and MA?
CSM is very impressive. I have been there for 7 years. It is very strange to leave this place that has always affected my life. The biggest difference between BA and MA is time. BA has 4 years of continuous growth and research, but the MA course is only 18 months.
How do you describe your design style? What inspires you most?
My work starts with childhood fantasies and adventures, and the series also attaches great importance to the use of materials, such as different textures and techniques for making cloth, and sometimes works from DIY, traditional crafts and folk.
Art
Materials were taken from China.
As a new designer, what do you think of today's fashion circles?
Fashion circles can be a very horrible place, but it can also be a very nice place. For example, London has always nurturing new people, accepting reforms and being willing to take risks.
How did it work with Fashion East?
Actually, I missed the deadline and applied for the exhibition only two weeks later. I feel very lucky to be able to be sponsored. This allows me to continue to develop my identity and is also a good start for my brand.
Although you have only published the first series of brands, you have learned a lot in the industry. What do you think is the biggest difference in designing for others (such as cooperation with Bally) and designing your own series?
I very much like to cooperate with other brands, and the cooperation with big brands like Bally, using their facilities and crafts in the design process is amazing experience, and it is very difficult to have the same design technology in the early stage of developing their own brand. I like the fruits of our cooperation very much.
What, s next? Will there be any new cooperation series published recently?
I will have a new cooperation plan at the end of the month, but I can't say too much now. This will be a big sports brand. I think it should be a very interesting cooperation project.
What I like best in the new series is color and materials. I have always been very fond of that kind of flax colored cotton cloth. They are very cheap but most interesting. I never expected that I could see the complete series in this tone design. The 15 works are quite independent but ring closed. Those unadorned clothes, those linen knitted and suede works are all my favorite. Some people say that the color of linen is like the color of the clothes worn by relatives in Chinese funeral, but sometimes we need to break a cultural taboo when we wear fashionable clothes.
