Previously, Pakistan and Iran agreed to barter rice, wheat, meat and fruit, vegetables, oil and iron ore. The Iranian consulate is issuing various visas for Pakistani businessmen for six months. Abdullah suggested that the two countries should start trading their local currencies to replace other currencies.

The President of the Pakistan Federation of Industry and Commerce said that Pakistan and Iran have always maintained close cooperative relations. Both countries are founding countries of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

Pakistan and Iran implemented the preferential trade agreement in 2006, but the current bilateral trade volume does not reflect the real potential between the two countries. In 2011, the trade volume between the two countries was about 265 million US dollars.
