The Indonesian Government Is Urged To Strengthen Supervision And Prevent Shoe Smuggling

Binsar Marpaung, secretary-general of the Indonesian Footwear Association (Aprisindo), said that the government must strengthen its supervision on the illegal import of shoes from China, because shoes from China have flooded the domestic market.

He told reporters in Jakarta yesterday: "The government must strengthen its commitment to China shoes Supervision over illegal entry into China through five ports in China. " He explained: "Nowadays, Chinese illegal products sold in China are still easy to obtain at the port where foreign products enter the domestic market."

He said that by strengthening supervision activities, we can more strictly control the entry of products illegally imported from China into the domestic market.

Because cheap shoes from China flooded the Chinese market, it would be difficult for local shoes to compete.

Binchal claimed that the competition between local shoes and imported shoes would depend on the price in the market, but the price of Chinese imported shoes illegally entering the country was cheaper, which made the product popular with the public.

Although the trade agreement between Indonesia and China has been signed through the China ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA), which came into effect in 2010, China's illegal shoes are still flooding our market.

He added that although many cheap shoes in China are still on the market, domestic shoes with good quality can compete with imported shoes, and even there is a considerable demand for domestic shoes in the market.

The government, through the Ministry of Industry, has provided convenience to domestic entrepreneurs, such as facilitating access to raw materials, and building equipment and infrastructure to develop their business.

The convenience provided by the government to entrepreneurs can improve their production and enhance the competitiveness of local shoes against Chinese products that have controlled the domestic low-cost shoe market.
