The synthetic leather industry in Wenzhou started in the early 90s of last century. Up to now, the city has owned 108 synthetic leather enterprises, of which 55 are worth more than 100 billion yuan, and it has become the largest synthetic leather production base in the whole country and even in Asia.

However, due to the high density of enterprises, unreasonable layout, and some enterprises' inadequate treatment of pollution, the masses once strongly reflected the environmental pollution problem of the industry.

How to protect the environment and create environmentally-friendly synthetic leather?

Many entrepreneurs have gradually realized that the management of "three wastes" is the social responsibility of enterprises.

"Enterprises must develop for a long time, and pollution control must catch up", said Sun Jianfeng, general manager of Wenzhou artificial leather Co., Ltd.

In recent years, the industry has invested more than 400 million yuan in pollution control.

Significant breakthroughs have been made in the treatment of waste gas, waste water and solid waste generated during the production of synthetic leather.

Environmental protection has brought economic rewards to the Downtown Airport Road, which has been a hot topic of environmental protection for the general public.

Now, people passing through Longwan have found that the surrounding environment of the airport road, which is relatively concentrated in synthetic leather enterprises, has changed significantly.

The main source of odour was DMF, two methylamine emitted from synthetic leather enterprises, and emissions from some chemical and natural leather enterprises.

Since 2002, Wenzhou artificial leather Co., Ltd. has carried out special research in conjunction with the scientific research department, developed the DMF recovery equipment, and made the DMF recovery rate reach 60%. Because DMF is one of the high cost raw materials in the synthetic leather enterprise, it has also brought great economic returns to the enterprise.

In 2005, "Hong Deli", together with professional management companies, restudied the improvement of the recovery device, and implemented a recovery tower corresponding to a dry production line, so that the DMF recovery rate reached 95%. This practice has also been widely promoted in the whole industry.

It is understood that the annual recycling and recycling of DMF in Wenzhou's synthetic leather industry can reduce production costs by nearly 200 million yuan, reflecting the enormous economic benefits brought by the recycling economy.

In April last year, the municipal solid waste treatment center was built and put into operation. The solid waste (residue) of synthetic leather enterprises located in the Longwan economic and Technological Development Zone has been centralized and harmless.

Zheng Duquan, Secretary General of the chamber of Commerce, said that every slight improvement in the discharge and treatment of waste water, waste gas and waste residue will be promoted throughout the industry.

The pollution control work of synthetic leather industry has been promoted continuously.

Energy saving, a new bright spot in the industry, has achieved certain results in pollution control. Energy conservation has become one of the new economic growth points in the synthetic leather industry.

Last year, Wenzhou Xinxiang synthetic leather company invited 3 design units to successfully develop countercurrent tubular boiler waste heat utilization equipment, and reuse the residual heat of 60%-70% tail gas from the boiler which was directly discharged into the air, so as to achieve gratifying effect of reducing consumption and reducing emissions.

Chen Zhennan, chairman of the company, said that now the company runs two units a day, with a spare one, and the daily coal can reach about 10 tons. According to the coal price of 700 yuan per ton, the annual operation is 10 months, and the cost can be reduced by 2 million 100 thousand yuan per year.

Under the guidance of the chamber of Commerce, more than 10 enterprises in the synthetic leather industry have copied this technology and achieved energy saving and consumption reduction.

Zheng Guochun, chairman of the municipal synthetic leather business association and chairman of Zhengda synthetic leather enterprise, said that the implementation of circular economy in the synthetic leather industry has achieved remarkable economic, environmental and social benefits, which has greatly stimulated the initiative and enthusiasm of the enterprise.

In recent years, enterprises have also actively explored the use of environmentally-friendly new materials in order to control pollution from the source.
