1. effect of fiber properties on pilling

(1) the more crimp waves of wool fibers are, the more flexible the twisting coarse yarns are, and the fibers are easily resilient from the stretching state to the frizzled state.

In the course of friction, fibers are easily slipped out of the yarn, forming hairs on the surface of the fabric, and easily entangling the pilling.

(2) the finer the fiber and the better the softness is, the more the number of curled waves is, the easier to form pilling.

In a sense, the high count wool fiber is easier to pilling than the fabric made of low count wool.

(3) fiber length is uneven. When twisting, part of the fiber is exposed outside the yarn to form hairiness and easy to pilling.

(4) fibers with good bending strength are not easy to break off after forming spherulites, and the pilling phenomenon on fabrics is more serious.

(5) the inner wool fibers of the yarn interact with the scale structure of the fiber surface, making the inner layer wool fibers not easy to slide out.

However, the outer fibers of the yarns are directly in contact with the external objects, and they rub each other, because the forward friction coefficient of the wool fibers is smaller than that of the reverse friction coefficient, which speeds up the loosening of the fibers and slips out of the yarn surface.

(1) yarn twist is large, and the fibers are tightly connected. When rubbing, fibers are not easily slipped out of the yarn and are not easy to pilling.

(2) yarn twist is uneven, fibers tend to slip out of slack and weak rings, and pilling tends to increase.

(3) in the process of yarn, due to the increase of mechanical friction or uneven fiber length, the yarn surface will form hairy and form pilling.

(4) the ply yarn is smooth than the single yarn and is not easy to pilling.

(5) practice has proved that the colored flower wool is easier to pilling than the single color wool, and the dark wool is easier to pilling than the color wool.

3. relationship between knitting and pilling

Woolen sweater is made of series of coils. The fabric structure is looser than that of the woven fabric. The number of yarns that bear friction in the unit area is less, so it is easier to pilling than the woven fabric.

The knitted fabric with tight structure and smooth surface has smaller pilling.
