Reporters Visited The Design Master Nathan Jenden Before And After

    2012/11/11 13:24:00 18

    Nathan JendenFashion IndustryFashion

Reporter: many people are from you.

    Diane Von Furstenberg

When I met you, how did you get that job?

Nathan Jenden: I didn't know Diane at that time, but when she wanted to inject new blood into the brand, she thought of me. I told her that I didn't want to take part in the job, and she telephoned me the next year.

I have a very good relationship with Diane. She is my daughter's godmother. We are like family members. I feel a little sorry for flying alone now, but I just want to focus on my brand.

The other day we had dinner together. She said her creative director left after two days in the spring and summer show.

Reporter: so will you go back?

    Nathan Jenden

Of course not. The reason for my leaving is obvious.

I used to be a competent creative director, but at this moment I just want to be my own brand.

Does the journalist come to Shanghai to participate in the fashion week? Is it one of the plans to develop your own brand? Nathan Jenden yes, I didn't expect Shanghai fashion week to be so influential.

I like fashion publishing. I can make fashion shows in the bathroom.

It should be very interesting, like a party, even if it is not, it should not be a dull and stiff scene.

    Please, it's not a funeral.

I take fashion seriously, but I think it should bring a lot of happiness to people.

The sense of humor in fashion is very important. If you see this series will not laugh, everyone will laugh at you, others will laugh at you, and you will laugh at yourself even more.

Actually, I started to come to Shanghai eight years ago. This year fashion week is more fluent than ever, and fashion sense has been greatly improved.

There are too many places to buy clothes in this city of Shanghai. You can go to the wholesale market in Cheap Road or to buy clothes at Nanchang road's fashion shop.

Reporter: what do you think is the significance of Cheap Road to fashion?

Nathan Jenden: as a designer, you can't be too opinionated. You need to know everything.

    clothing

    Relevant information.

When I need lace, I'll also buy lace from the fabric market near the Bund.

I like that, no matter what others think.

If things are good, I don't care where they come from.

Reporter: where does your design come from? How do you start a series of designs?

Nathan Jenden: music, I think music can create fashion attitude. Before I design every series, music appears in my mind.

I see a lot of music videos, past and present, they always give me a lot of inspiration.

Reporter: this season, your inspiration seems to be goddess. All of your past series are very Funky, and this season has used a lot of pendant elements. In my opinion, it is very conservative.

Nathan Jenden: Well, I think the pendant is very suitable for spring wear, very smooth.

I want to use pendant to make sculptures. My inspiration is not only from Rome statues, but also from Cleopatra.

You asked me if I was very conservative, and I was very entangled, but it was interesting to put pendant and print together.

What I like most is the more clipped ones, such as the suits and lace skirts, the complex structure of the back, and the models wearing them are like twins in Alice's Wonderland. I love that fairy tale.

Nathan Jenden: I think it's sexy. If a woman is sexy, she has all kinds of lovely characteristics. Even if she is not the most beautiful, she must be very attractive.

I think the attitude of wearing a fashion is always more important than the shape itself.

Reporter: do you still remember your first fashion moment?

Nathan Jenden: because of my parents, I grew up around the stars.

When I was a teenager in 1985, my parents planned a Live Aid rock concert to raise money for Ethiopia with U2's Bono stars.

There was also an activity called Fashion Aid, and the strong and concise design of Giorgio Armani touched me.

I went to the best boarding school in England, and my teacher told me that if you continued to paint after the math homework book, you would fail, and they kept training me to go to Oxford.

When I was preparing to go to college, my parents had a serious traffic accident. My father had to work on a ventilator, and my mother could not get out of bed for a year. I was only 17 years old. Such a change made me decide to do what I really wanted to do.

I have never been to art school, but I am very good at painting. I secretly made a collection to interview with the central Saint Martin Institute of art and design.

The people around me are all dressed up in weird clothes. Only I wear a suit, but they accept me.

Reporter: what do you feel about education at Royal College of Art in England?

Nathan Jenden: actually, I don't like Royal College of Art very much.

Saint Martin is very cool, but Royal College of Art in England is very formal and traditional, trying to cultivate talents who can be pported to the fashion industry. In the first year, they urged me to be discouraged, saying I was not honest, I always played in class (actually I did), they would do very boring commercialized chain store projects, and I couldn't afford to take any interest.

Then there was a project launched by Karl Lagerfeld. I made a series of bulletproof suits for Miami DJ and won the championship.

Karl gave me a cheque for 10000 pounds and asked me to practice at Chanel in Paris.

So I was promoted to Royal College of Art for second years. My graduation show was "Alice in Wonderland". My graduation thesis is a modern fairy tale in cyberspace.

If I am not a designer, I will probably be a writer. I have the urge to write.

Reporter: your network consciousness is very early. What do you think of the social networking and fashion Blogger trend?

Nathan Jenden: I don't use social networks such as journalists it ter and Facebook. I don't like to declare to the world what I am doing.

If my friend wants to know what I'm doing, I can Google.

I always run around, so everyone I can see can see it. I don't need these accounts. They are all for people who need to kill time. I am a bit busy.

As for Blogger, the Internet has made a lot of people. It can help you touch something you can't touch. It makes many people express themselves. This is very good, because I think everyone should have their own voice.

But I will not pay attention to them.

I don't read magazines too much.

Interviewer: let's talk about working with John Galliano.

Nathan Jenden: I think he is a madman and the most talented designer I have ever seen. When he designs, he will dig out Elizabeth I's paintings. You will think he is crazy, but when you see what he has made, you have to admire him.

His costume show is the most interesting and complete in history. A lexander McQueen is copying him to some extent.

McQu e e n was very good at beginning with some rough lines, but it was a bit overdone.

He is not so creative as Ga l l iano, and I think McQueen's design lacks love for women.

Reporter: do you mean his dark side?

Nathan Jenden: his work is a bit angry. Actually, I think dark or slight distortion is good, but I think fashion is a happy thing. I only get angry when I get fat and can't wear beautiful clothes.

Reporter: how do you feel about the fashion world now?

Nathan Jenden: when I read, or just went to work, there were many talented designers in the fashion industry, such as Martin Margiela, JohnGalliano, Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo, which now make people feel that this situation is no longer a reality.

I like the young people in London now. Christopher Kane is sometimes very interesting. Erdem used to work for me. He is a lovely boy, but I feel he has an old lady in his heart.
