Shengze textile industry is experiencing a cold winter, the living conditions of migrant workers are very sad, some workers have no experience in the textile factory, to find a satisfactory job is almost impossible, can not be maintained only to leave, but also workers have come in, they want to continue to live hard.

This year, under the influence of many unfavorable factors at home and abroad, China's economy is facing a major test. Especially in China's textile industry, the impact has been the biggest. Some analysts believe that 1/3 of Chinese textile enterprises will go bankrupt, and about about 4000000 of them will be laid off. Is this happening?

If it does not appear now, will it happen in the future?

Recently, our reporter Sun Jing arrived at the Shengze town of Wujiang, Jiangsu, China's silk capital, to investigate the laid-off workers there.

The silk capital Jiangsu Shengze small and medium-sized enterprises open and stop, the life of migrant workers is very difficult. Shengze is a town in southern Jiangsu, but even more prosperous than some cities in the north. Such prosperity comes from the title of "China silk capital" in Shengze. These shops are located in the Shengze Oriental silk market. The market was built 22 years ago, and now it has gathered more than 5000 shops from all over the country, known as China's first cloth market. In November 24, 2007, the Ministry of Commerce, the National Textile Industry Association, the Jiangsu economic and Trade Commission and the Wujiang Municipal People's government began to jointly launch the China Shengze silk chemical fiber index, which is a barometer of the Shengze economy.

Yan Youming, director of the China Eastern Silk Market Management Committee, said: "from the largest commodity in the Eastern Silk Market, namely, chemical fiber products, a price index of chemical fiber products and the prosperity index of our market, and the index of prosperity of our chemical fiber, these three categories of indicators have shown a downward trend throughout the past six months, and the rate of decline is still relatively large."

At present, there are more than 2400 large and small textile enterprises in Shengze town. They are distributed in more than 30 villages in Shengze town and surrounding areas. These enterprises have accepted 250 thousand migrant workers from all over the country. When the textile enterprises are declining, what are their destinies?

Reporter: "the Hong'an village is only 5 kilometers away from the heartland of Shengze Town, but the scene is quite different from that in the town. We can see the textile enterprises everywhere. There are lots of rented houses around these textile enterprises. Many migrant workers live here. The first two days when we came to Shengze, we met a migrant worker from Anhui, Pan Shengchun. We agreed to come to his home today and have a look."

On both sides of the road, most of these low houses are migrant workers.

Reporter: "the front is Laopan's home. In this courtyard, there are many migrant workers like Laopan."

Today, Mr. Pan is on the night shift. His wife Zhang Xianrong is just on the night shift of the day before. Two people are just at home. In the whole August, there are not enough time for two people to go to work.

Pan Shengchun: "I stopped for more than a week this month."

Zhang Xianrong: "in August, basically not a few classes, it has been done for a few days, and then 3 has been one day, the rest of the time is basically stopped, and only 8 classes were done in July."

He and his 18 year old son crowded into the room less than 15 square meters. Although life was very inconvenient, they didn't want to pay 170 yuan for another room. They didn't earn 170 yuan a month.

Pan Shengchun: "a class is 85 yuan, so if it stops one class, I will be 85 less."

Pan Shengchun under normal circumstances 20 classes a month, that is, 12 hours of work to rest 24 hours, take 1700 yuan, but in August, because of the stoppage of work, he can get up to 1200 yuan, Zhang Xianrong can only get 8 or 900 yuan this month, the income of 2000 yuan makes their lives more and more difficult. In addition to the necessities of life, the home can not be simple, for them, the business boom is their only hope, but in fact, most of the enterprises are very nervous.

Reporter: "in Shengze, we can see a lot of small textile enterprises, most of them have only thirty or forty machines, and only ten or twenty people. For these enterprises, most of them are in a state of hard support. Some enterprises stop for a period of time, and some are just increasing their inventories even in production. Like the enterprise behind me, according to local people, there is no production after the Spring Festival. For those enterprises, who can support tomorrow, there is no bottom in everyone's mind."

The Zhongxing spurt weaving mill is a small factory with no bottom. They only have 24 looms, and only 2 workers in one class. Although they have stopped for nearly a month this year, their inventory has not been digested, and the white cloth stacked in the workshop has begun to become moldy and green.

Zhang Longxi, manager of Wujiang Zhongma textile factory, "at least three or four months."

This is the raw material for production, plus the production inventory that has not been digested. Zhang Longxi has already put in about 1000000 yuan of funds, which is a great burden to small factories such as ZTE.

Zhang Longxi: "sales are hard to move because of bad market conditions. Now Shengze is basically the same."

However, if it is not necessary, Zhang Longxi will not stop production. The production will shorten the life of these looms and make the products unstable, and the workers will be lost.

Zhang Longxi: "if the production is stopped, the workers will go away, so they can only start and stop. Otherwise, if the production situation improves and then recruits, I am afraid it will be very difficult to recruit skilled workers."

Despite the recession this year, the couple did not leave the company. On the one hand, a good company could not go. On the other hand, the bad companies did not want to go. What's more, the factory pressed 400 yuan every month, and by August, it had already had 3200 yuan plus a mortgage of more than 3000 yuan. If he chose to leave, he was worried that he could not get all the money.

Pan Shengchun: "maybe this is the case. I'll give you 70%, and the rest of the money will be deducted. If you say today, you will go."

There are 30 migrant workers in this courtyard, which is simple and messy but clean. They work hard and hope to have a better future. But many workers are not producing normal production. At the moment, Pan Shengchun is more helpless than ever.

Pan Shengchun: "you have no money, what do you have in mind?

The workers are sad, and the business life is also very intense. Zhang Longxi's business was started in 2002. By 2004, it had been able to build these second factories, and the two factories could build warehouses between them, but the situation in the textile industry was unexpected. Zhang Longxi had no ability to expand production again. So the factory built a warehouse, and the plot to make warehouses is now full of weeds. As for how long they can support them in the future, Zhang Longxi has no bottom in mind.

Can enterprises with better efficiency and larger scale provide new jobs for migrant workers?

There are not many factories that actually close down and fail to eat in Shengze, but almost every small and medium business owner complains that business is difficult to do. Their factories are also going to a stop. Such workers like Pan Shengchun and his wife can only go to work when they live. They feel at ease at home when they are not living. If the small businesses that are working in front of them fail, will those companies that are more efficient and larger in scale can provide them with new jobs?

Heng Li group is the largest textile enterprise in Shengze and a good local company. They spend tens of millions of dollars to build 17 dormitory buildings for their employees. There are restaurants, laundry, post offices, banks, Internet cafes, health centers and supermarkets. The living facilities are quite complete. Employees can live in the room only if they pay 30 yuan a month. If they are double employees, they can also live in single rooms free of charge. Such enterprises are relatively stable, and people like Mr. Pan Shengchun and his wife can hardly get in.

Ding Jianzhong, deputy general manager of Jiangsu Hengli Chemical Fiber Co., Ltd.: "we recruit employees, basically, we are not advertised as advertised in the society, we are recruited from every vocational and technical school in each province, from its schools, which is a vocational technology learning before employees get employed, so the quality is relatively high."

Since Hengli Group has a relatively high cost of employing people, they will try to reduce the number of employees. Although there are more than 10 thousand employees in Hengli Group, their number of employees has not increased synchronously according to their sales volume of 11 billion 200 million yuan.

Ding Jianzhong: "Hengli Group is constantly developing. In the process of development, we do not add new employees, but how to improve labor efficiency, so we have 10000 yuan output value of the number of employment, including our number of workers per 10 thousand tons is 20% decline."

There are 6500 people in the largest number of chemical fibers at present, and only 5000 people now. Some of the surplus workers have gone to their new textile factory -- bojda textile, which is a workshop of the textile mill, which has 530 spinning machines. The huge workshop machines can not see a few workers, but the monitoring instrument shows that the efficiency of the spinning machine is 98%. It is the most advanced textile machinery that enables them to accomplish this. In a Zhongxing weaving factory, a worker can only see 12 machines, and here, a worker can see 30-50 machines, and the working efficiency has increased by 3-4 times. Although it is a cold winter in the textile industry, the industry is not completely destroyed. The real competitive enterprises in Shengze town do not have a large demand for migrant workers. They value their work skills better than wages. In the past, large numbers of small and medium-sized enterprises who absorbed large numbers of migrant workers in the past have been trying to control costs. They have started to stop and reduce the number of workers. This has led many migrant workers into an awkward position. They do not want to be eliminated in the cold winter of textile industry, but staying in Shengze is also a lot of difficulties.

"I can't earn money here, my salary is too low, I can only eat it, so I plan to go back to my hometown."

Hu Jumei and Feng Xianfa came from Xuzhou to work in Shengze. They just sent their 7 year old son back to their hometown the first two days. Because Hu Jumei did not work, their 4 families depended entirely on Feng Xianfa's salary. He only got 1300 yuan a month.

Feng Xianfa has only junior middle school culture and no professional skills. It's hard to find a highly paid job in Shengze. The pressure of life makes the young man, who is only 30 years old, almost lose hope for the future. They plan to go back to their hometown after the Spring Festival.
