China Leather Industry: Survival Strategy Under Crisis

A few days ago, the 2008 China Leather Development Forum was held in Fuzhou.

This forum revolves around the four themes of "environmental innovation, pformation and upgrading", and explores the trend of the world leather industry and the development direction of China leather industry. In order to push forward the concept of "environmental protection leading, green leather and industrial upgrading", we will further enhance China's leather and footwear industry.

Leather and shoemaking industry is one of the traditional advantageous industries in Fujian Province, and occupies a pivotal position in the whole country.

Since the beginning of reform and opening up, Fujian has made rapid progress in leather and shoemaking industry due to its advantages in location, pportation, humanities and policy. In 2007, more than 1000 enterprises in the province's leather products industry were above Designated Size, and the total industrial output value was 83 billion 560 million yuan, ranking third in the same industry in the whole country. The product sales rate was 98%, higher than the average level of the whole industry.

In addition, Fujian is one of the three major shoe producing areas in China.

Footwear products are mainly sports shoes (about 20% of the total output of world sports shoes). In 2007, there were more than 4000 shoe making enterprises in the province, with about 2000000000 pairs of shoes per year, of which 93 billion 640 million of the total industrial output value above designated size was 39 billion 210 million yuan.

The whole industry has 13 "China famous brands", more than 20 "China famous trademarks", 1 provincial industry and technology centers, 14 provincial level technology centers, and Anta, fortune birds, XTEP, Hongxing Erke and other well-known leading enterprises both at home and abroad.

The forum was held in Fuzhou, and also showed its important position in the national industry.

The chief negotiator of China's WTO, Long Yongtu, Secretary General of Boao forum for Asia, Jia Xitai, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Fujian Provincial People's Congress, vice chairman of China Light Industry Federation, Xu Yong, honorary president of China Leather Association, Zhong Anping, deputy director of Fujian economic and trade Commission, Yang Chengjie, President of China leather and shoemaking industry research institute, Huang Jingheng, chairman of China Hongkong Leather Industry Association, vice chairman of Taiwan Leather Association, etc., and more than 200 experts and scholars and famous entrepreneurs from leather industry and shoemaking industry all over the country attended the forum.

As a symbol of global economy, Long Yongtu's keynote speech won the applause of the guests.

In view of the overall situation of the current international economic development, through analyzing the differences between the East and West consumption concepts and the current situation of Chinese society, he points out that China's economic development is still on the rise, and that the global financial turmoil is not too bad for China's economic development, and it is necessary to strengthen China's confidence in long-term high speed development.

He stressed that while giving priority to the development of environment-friendly, open and manufacturing industries, we must vigorously develop a complete manufacturing industry chain. Only by building a strong real economy can we drive the overall economic development and reduce the impact of the global financial crisis on China.

Jia Xitai said that in the new round of development, Fujian should actively guide the leather and shoemaking industry to pform the mode of economic growth, improve product R & D capability, enhance the level of independent innovation, implement brand strategy, strengthen scientific and technological progress, adjust product mix, innovate marketing mode, and achieve the overall breakout and sustainable development of leather making and shoemaking industry.

Delegates from the conference put forward valuable opinions on the overall situation and future development of China's leather industry.

Xu Yong, honorary president of China Leather Association, said that the current world economy and capital market have undergone major changes. Only by actively coping with challenges can we maintain the sustained and stable development of the industry. Huang Jingheng, chairman of the Hongkong Leather Industry Chamber of Commerce, has interpreted the current basic situation of China's leather industry, expounded and analyzed the future development prospects of the whole industry. Li Dingfang, vice president of China Leather Association of Taiwan, has made a keynote speech on "the development of leather industry across the Strait", which has attracted the attention of the guests.
