In the first quarter, exports of textiles and clothing fluctuated drastically, and the total export grew by only 0.4%. In the first two months of the year, exports achieved a steady growth of 6.6% and export volume returned to over 20 billion US dollars, showing a good trend overall.
In April this year, China's textile and clothing trade volume was US $26 billion 100 million, an increase of 6.5% over the same period last year. Among them, exports amounted to 23 billion 750 million US dollars, an increase of 6.6%; imports of US $2 billion 340 million, an increase of 5.9%; the trade surplus of US $21 billion 410 million in the same month, an increase of 6.7%. 1~4 months, China's textile and apparel trade volume of US $90 billion 460 million, an increase of 2.5% over the same period last year. Among them, exports amounted to 81 billion 880 million US dollars, an increase of 2.1%; imports of US $8 billion 580 million, an increase of 5.8%; a cumulative surplus of US $73 billion 300 million, an increase of 1.7%.
In the first quarter, general trade exports showed a rare decline. In April, they rose sharply, rising 8.9% in the same month, driving the cumulative export growth in 1~4 months to 2.1%. Processing trade increased by 3.9% in April and 1.8% in 1~4 months. In the month of 3~4, exports of small frontier trade continued to decline, and the decline gradually increased. In April, it dropped by 11.5%, and the cumulative export growth in 1~4 months increased by 4.6%.

In April, textile exports amounted to 10 billion 560 million US dollars, an increase of 9.4%, and clothing exports of US $13 billion 200 million, an increase of 4.5%, of which 2 billion 910 million of the total exports of commodity needles and woven garments increased by 13.3%, and the average unit price of exports fell by 7.7%. In 1~4 months, textiles and clothing were exported by US $33 billion 590 million and US $48 billion 290 million, respectively, by 4.3% and 0.7% respectively. The total exports of knitted and woven garments totaled 10 billion 220 million pieces (sets), an increase of 8.2%, and the average unit price of exports dropped by 6.8%.
In April, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong and Shanghai all achieved export growth, while Guangdong and Fujian declined. Among them, Guangdong's second largest export position has been surpassed by Jiangsu and third. In 1~4 months, exports of Guangdong and Fujian declined rapidly, with a decrease of 6.4% and 15% respectively. Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Shandong still maintained steady growth. The characteristics of the uneven growth of exports in the central and western regions, and the large increase or decrease in the provinces remain. For example, the cumulative export growth of Sichuan in the first quarter was nearly 20%, but in April, there was a sharp decrease of 41%.
Exports to EU continue to improve
In April, China's exports to the EU continued to improve and its growth rate was further enhanced. Exports amounted to $3 billion 990 million, an increase of 33%. Among them, the export volume of needle woven garments of large categories increased by 26.3%, and the exports of textile products increased by 23%. In 1~4 months, the EU exceeded other regions and became the fastest growing main export market. The total export volume was 15 billion 80 million US dollars, an increase of 15.4%, of which the total export volume of needle and woven garments increased by 14.9%, and the export average unit price increased by 2%.
Exports to the US have maintained a good momentum of growth.
In April, China exported $3 billion 250 million to the US, an increase of 17.1%, an increase of 6 percentage points compared to March. Exports of textiles and clothing increased by 13.6% and 18.7% respectively.
In 1~4 months, exports to the United States totaled 11 billion 600 million US dollars, an increase of 5.8%, of which textiles and clothing grew by 6.8% and 5.4% respectively, and the growth rate of textiles was still higher than that of clothing. Clothing exports of large categories of needles and woven garments totaled 1 billion 700 million pieces (sets), an increase of 2.4%, and the export average unit price increased by 3.4%.
ASEAN's export growth continued to fall.
In April, China's export growth rate to ASEAN continued to fall, and exports amounted to 3 billion 450 million US dollars in that month, an increase of only 1.2%, of which 18.7% of textiles and 21.7% of clothing. The export volume of needles and woven garments increased by 12.3% in the early stage, but the average unit price of exports dropped by 31%, or more than 30%. In 1~4 months, ASEAN's total exports amounted to 10 billion 720 million US dollars, an increase of 1.3%, of which 10.8% of textiles and 11.6% of clothing. The total export volume of needles and woven garments increased by 22.1%, and the export average unit price dropped by 27.2%. Since 2012, China's exports to ASEAN clothing, mainly needle woven garments have increased significantly, and Vietnam's exports have increased the fastest. In 2012~2013, exports of needles and woven garments increased by 125% and 55% respectively. By the end of 2013, Vietnam accounted for 40% of the total exports of needle and woven garments in ASEAN. However, since 2014, the export growth rate has been slowing down, and the negative growth rate has been 21% in April. The total export volume of needles and woven garments increased by 19% in 1~4 months.
Exports to Japan continue to decline
Since February, China's export to Japan has entered a downward path. In April, exports of US $2 billion 250 million decreased by 11%, a further decline than in March. In 1~4 months, the cumulative export volume to US $7 billion 840 million was 8%, mainly due to a 11% drop in clothing exports. The export volume of needles and woven garments has decreased by 2.8%, while the export unit price has dropped by 6.2%.

Rapid growth in clothing imports
In April, imports of textiles and clothing were 1 billion 900 million US dollars and 430 million US dollars respectively, an increase of 1.2% and 32.9%. The import of textile yarn and fabric decreased, cotton yarn imports increased by 11%, and import average unit price decreased by 4%. Since the beginning of the year, the import volume of clothing has been increasing month by month. In April, the import volume of single month knitting and tatting garments reached 50 million pieces (sets), and 170 million pieces (sets) were imported in 1~4 months. The average unit price of yarn imports has always maintained a downward trend, 1~4 month decreased by 2.6%, and fabric import price increased by 4.2%. The import price of needle and woven garments dropped by 23.6%.
Cotton imports continue to decline
In April, cotton imports continued to fall, and imports of 224 thousand tonnes fell 47.9% in the same month. 1~4 imports totaled 985 thousand tons, down 45.2%. The average unit price of imports kept a small increase. In April, the average monthly price increased by 7.5%. As the price of reserve cotton has been lowered, the proportion of competitive cotton reserves for textile cotton has increased significantly. Since April 4th, China's cotton price index has included cotton reserves in the collection area, leading to a sharp drop in spot prices. In April, China's cotton price index (CC Index 3128B) was 18437 yuan, down 1003 yuan. China's cotton price dropped slightly in April, due to China's downward impact on the price of cotton reserves. China imported cotton price index FC Index M average monthly price 97.06 cents / pound, down 1.96 cents. 1% the discount rate of customs duties and sliding duties is 15201 yuan / ton and 16158 yuan / ton respectively, which are lower than the Chinese cotton price index for the same period 3236 yuan and 2279 yuan respectively, and the difference is narrowed by 762 yuan and 842 yuan respectively.

EU: faster import growth
According to the EU customs statistics, in 2014 1~3 months, the EU imported $34 billion 270 million from the global textile and apparel industry, an increase of 10%. In March, the figure increased by 16.7% in the month to two digits, and the rate of increase was further expanded. Textile imports totaled $8 billion 150 million, an increase of 12.6%, and clothing imports of $26 billion 130 million, an increase of 9.2%. Imports from China amounted to 12 billion 310 million US dollars, an increase of 6.5%, and imports from ASEAN 2 billion 960 million US dollars, an increase of 12.9%. The EU market share of China's products is 35.9%, ASEAN is 8.6%, and Turkey and Bangladesh are 13.9% and 11.8% respectively.

According to us customs statistics, imports and exports of textiles and clothing in the United States increased by 3.1% during the month of 2014 1~3. 27 billion 200 million dollars. Of which, imports of textiles amounted to 6 billion 250 million US dollars, an increase of 2.7%, and clothing imports of US $20 billion 950 million, an increase of 3.2%. Imports from China amounted to 9 billion 450 million US dollars, an increase of 1.2%. Imports from ASEAN amounted to 5 billion 650 million US dollars, an increase of 5%. The share of Chinese products in the US market is 34.8%, down 0.6 percentage points from the same period in 2013. ASEAN's share in the US market was 20.8%, an increase of 0.4 percentage points over the same period in 2013.
Japan: imports from China are still negative growth
According to Japanese customs statistics, in 2014 1~3 months, Japanese textile and apparel imports totaled 9 billion 730 million US dollars, an increase of 0.7%, of which 2 billion 170 million US dollars in textile imports, an increase of 9.2%. Clothing import 7 billion 560 million dollars, down 1.5%. Imports from China, US $6 billion 460 million, declined by 4.2%, while imports from ASEAN increased by US $1 billion 800 million over the same period, an increase of 18.1%. The share of Chinese products in the Japanese market dropped to 66.4%, down 3.4 percentage points from the same period in 2013. ASEAN's share in Japan rose to 18.5%, an increase of 2.8 percentage points over the same period in 2013.
