the predecessor of Taiyuan University of Technology is the national Shanxi College of Western learning, which was founded in 1902. It is one of the first three national universities in China. After more than 100 years of inheritance and development, the school has been built into an institution of higher learning which is mainly work oriented, combined with science and engineering, and is developed in a multidisciplinary way. It is the key construction University of the state's "211 Project".

 Art Institute of Taiyuan University of Technology is developed from the original textile engineering and Academy of Fine Arts. Its art discipline originated from the arts and crafts major set up in 1964. The Academy adheres to the school running concept of "integrating resources, inheriting culture, people-oriented, realistic and innovative".
