Ali Google Led AR Giant Insider Exposure: Executives Steal Technology
If it is not a company dispute that draws attention, this low-key and mysterious company may not attract your attention at all.
Call Magic Leap company
Technology circles
The most low-key and most mysterious is not too much.
The company formerly known as an ordinary entertainment studio has accumulated three rounds of financing, amounting to $1 billion 400 million.
In February 2016, investors gave a valuation of $4 billion 500 million.
After three rounds of financing, the AR:artificial reality company has been elevated to the unicorn level. However, apart from several videos that have been released, MagicLeap remains mysterious.
Even though hundreds of non company employees have tried the company's products, the time of publication for the consumer market is still unknown.
Internal disputes make the mystery of Magic Leap surfaced.
Recently, the company was troubled by the "betrayal" of two executives.
Magic Leap brought two former executives Gary Bradski and Adrian Kaehler to court, accusing them of stealing the company's confidential patent technology and disclosing technical secrets to the third party.
The lawsuit pointed out that the two had conspired to establish their own in the past year.
virtual reality
(VR:Virtual Reality), the technology used is based on confidential information and know-how of Magic Leap, and also used Magic Leap's connections in the planning process.
Magic Leap claims in the lawsuit filed to the court that Gary Bradski has been the vice president of advanced perception and intelligence of the company, and has been engaged in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence for a long time, including the know-how involved in Magic Leap, as well as plans and projects to understand and participate in Robotics and deep learning technology.
Adrian Kaehler joined the company in 2013 and served as vice president of some special projects of the company, and reported directly to Gary Bradski.
At present, lawyers for Gary Bradski and Adrian Kaehler have denied the charges and formally filed a lawsuit against Magic Leap, on the grounds that they were wrongly relieved of their employment contracts, and claimed that the lawsuit would prove that Magic Leap had no choice but to deprive them of their multimillion dollar options.
But it is precisely because of such a high-level dispute inside the company that the outside world has the opportunity to spy on what Magic Leap is doing.
There is no doubt that they are involved in the most advanced and popular technology at present: Robotics and deep learning, plus the AR project that has leaked out before. No wonder Google, Alibaba and other Internet giants have appeared in the company's list of investors.
In February of this year, Magic Leap received about $794 million from the Alibaba group.
Before Alibaba investment, Google led investment has been invested in 542 million US dollars.
Without the advent of any product, the largest C round of financing in history has been obtained, making the outside world curious about the company.
Virtual reality and augmented reality
Unlike typical US technology start-ups, they chose office locations in Silicon Valley, which is based in Florida, the US.
To understand what Magic Leap is doing, it can start with VR, which is now too hot to work.
VR is to enable users to create "experiential Wikipedia" through intelligent devices and VR platforms, which can be provided to anyone at any time and anywhere.
For example, in his own home, a user can experience the fear of the edge of an erupting volcano, a pleasant walk around Pyramid, and a sense of what it is like to detect Mars, and what is the feeling of becoming a fierce lobster?

At present, almost all you can imagine.
Internet
Giants are strongly embracing the wave of virtual reality.
Facebook, Google, apple, Amazon, Microsoft, SONY, Samsung and so on all have a complete team of artificial reality, and they employ more engineers every day.
More 230 companies, like Meta, the Void, Atheer, Lytro and 8i, create hardware and content for VR.
The special thing about Magic Leap is that the virtual objects that users experience is not only integrated into the real world, but also can respond to the real world.
Kevin Kelly, editor in chief of the magazine, visited the company in person and felt the product of Magic Leap.
"I saw it all through the synthetic-reality helmet.
Intellectually, I know that this drone is just a delicate virtual thing, but it is really there, in this ordinary office.
It is a virtual object, but it can not find any pixels or traces of artificial digital products from its full three-dimensional features.
If I adjust my head position, I can keep the virtual drone in front of a bright office lamp and find it vaguely pparent.
But this sign does not hinder its strong sense of presence at the moment.
This is, of course, one of the most promising future of artificial reality - it can instantaneously send you to a magical place, or let those magical things come to you in a twinkling.
Kevin Kelly said.
In addition, Kevin Kelly felt that humanoid robots were passing through walls in their rooms, and they could shoot them with real prop guns.
"I see tiny little people playing wrestling on a real desktop. It looks like a holographic chess game in Star Wars.
These little people are obviously not true, though they are very realistic in the image.
But they do appear there, not just in front of me, but I can almost feel their presence.
Kevin Kelly said.
This MR:mixed reality technology that combines virtual reality with reality is exactly what Magic Leap is studying.
Although Magic Leap is not the only company to create mixed reality technology, its virtual visual quality surpasses all competitors at present.
"Magic Leap is so successful because they claim to solve the two major problems of OST (optical perspective) binocular AR glasses industry: 1. VAC Vergence-Accommodation Conflict, that is, the conflict of agglomeration and dispersion.
2. Occlusion - pparent objects can not obscured reality.
Although they are still a long time away from their products, VR has been a pioneer in the exploration of smart glasses.
Binocular AR is more difficult to achieve than VR. In the hot year of VR, AR industry will usher in its era.
Yi pupil technology CTO AI Tao previously said in an interview with the media.
Magic Leap founder Rony Abovitz
"What we are doing is the journey of inner space.
What we are building is the Internet of presence and experience.
Magic Leap founder Rony Abovitz said.
Although competitors have produced decent virtual reality helmets (such as Oculus Rift under Facebook), Abovitz, who has worked in the biomedical field, thinks that VR is the most advanced technology in the world. In this world, human beings are an integral part of hardware.
AR should be a symbiotic (symbiont) technology, the symbiosis between machine and body.
In order to achieve its functions perfectly, VR and MR must use biological circuits and silicon chips.
The sense of the scene brought by these helmets is not created by video, but by neurology.
Abovitz said.
It is no wonder that technology innovation can be calmly reflected in the wave of virtual reality.
Although there are no products available yet, good things are always worth waiting for.
