Tony Bignell, vice chairman of Nike shoe innovation department, described the new material "looks and feels like the real leather. It is coloured with the full grain of the natural cowhide". In addition to recycling and reusing a large part of the abandoned cowhide, the production process of Flyleather can save 90% of water consumption and reduce 80% of CO2 emissions compared with traditional leather manufacturing methods.
