As early as the founding of new China, Ding Zengxi was already tied up with the textile industry. In July 1946, he was admitted to the technical training class organized by the first machinery plant of Qingdao Textile Co., Ltd., and began to contact the textile machinery industry. After the founding of new China, Ding Zengxi worked as a technician at the Qingdao textile machinery factory. Later, he was transferred to the Ministry of textile industry. He served as an engineer in the Construction Department of the Ministry of textile industry, deputy general manager of the textile machinery company and deputy director of the Department of Technology and equipment. He participated in the construction of many major textile machinery and equipment projects such as Jinshan and Yizheng.

Talking about the development of textile machinery industry in China in the past 70 years, Ding Zengxi first recalled the manufacturing situation of textile machinery in the three years of recovery of the national economy. He took the carding machine made by the spinning machine at that time as an example. The output of the machine was only 5~7 kilograms, the spindle speed of spinning frame was 12 thousand revolutions per minute, and ten million spindles were used for 300 workers, but even such machines were difficult to manufacture at that time. Ding Zengxi regrets to say that despite the weak foundation at that time, under the leadership of the party, we have been self-reliance, arduous struggle, continuous learning and vigorous efforts to narrow the gap between domestic textile machinery equipment and foreign product technology. He recalled with pleasure the story of the textile man's struggle in different periods in the past 70 years, and described the technological progress of the key textile machinery factories such as the green spinning machine and Yizheng chemical fiber. In October 2013, the textile retired cadre bureau organized retired veteran comrades to revisit Yizheng chemical fiber. He went to see the production of polyester staple fiber. The factory leader said that 20 of the three branches of Yizheng chemical fibre plant, with an annual output of 15 thousand tons of polyester staple fiber equipment, are stable and reliable, and are superior to imported equipment.

When talking about the technological progress of China's textile machinery in the new century, Ding Zengxi said with a smile: "at present, China's textile machinery technology has been very close to the international advanced level. Some factories have realized the whole process of intelligent production, with no one on duty at night, and only 15 people in 10000 spindles. This is a great achievement.
