The EU Has Recovered Preferential Policies, And Kampuchea'S Textile Industry Is Facing 160 Thousand Unemployment. Sending Help To China
As we all know, with the economic growth in Southeast Asia, many enterprises have shifted their production lines to Southeast Asian countries. In recent years, Kampuchea's textile industry has developed rapidly. But recently, a large number of textile factories in Kampuchea are facing difficulties such as downtime and other factors affected by epidemic and trade.
According to the latest report of the Nikkei Asia review March 6th, as of the end of February, a total of 10 textile factories in Southeast Asian countries have been closed down. Kampuchea says that by March this year, as many as 200 factories and enterprises will run out of raw materials. What is more serious is that this may lead to the possibility of unemployment for 160 thousand workers. The total number of employed people in the textile industry is around 1 million, which shows how much impact and loss the supply shortage has brought to the country's textile industry.
To add insult to injury, last month, the European Union also decided to withdraw some of its export preferential policies granted to Kampuchea under the trade plan. The decision will take effect in August of this year, involving clothing, equipment, sugar and many other products, accounting for 1/5 of Kampuchea's total exports. That is to say, the EU has begun to impose restrictions on some export products in Kampuchea, which will be a heavy blow to the export economy of the country.
In order to ease the plight of the textile industry, Kampuchea has also urgently sought help from the Chinese market. It is reported that 60% of Kampuchea's textiles are imported from China. If you want to transfer raw materials from India or other countries, it will be difficult to achieve them in a short time. Not long ago, Kampuchea had shown its difficulties to China and hoped that China could transport a batch of raw materials to Kampuchea. In this regard, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce has promised to give priority to providing raw materials for Kampuchea.
In fact, since the outbreak of the epidemic, although Kampuchea's own medical supplies are not abundant, the country has not ceased to rush to China. On the 2 th of this month, the country donated 300 thousand medical masks and a number of protective clothing to China again, showing the friendly and mutual assistance relationship between China and Cambodia. On the contrary, Vietnam, which also had a shortage of textile raw materials, had not only stopped some flights to and from China, but also repeatedly blocked the export of China masks. This brings pressure on normal economic and trade exchanges between China and Vietnam.
