Heavy Weight! "China Textile And Clothing Industry Life Cycle Assessment Working Group" Was Officially Established

As one of the five major parts of the 2020 China Textile Conference, the annual meeting of social responsibility of China's textile and garment industry was successfully held in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, China on December 22. At the meeting, the "working group on life cycle assessment of China's textile and garment industry" was officially announced. After nearly seven months of preparation, the working group currently has 40 members, including 31 enterprises and 9 academic and technical institutions. It basically covers the whole supply chain process of main fiber materials, textile chemicals, textile, printing and dyeing processing, sewing and non manufacturing, as well as the purchasing brand and consumer end. "China Textile and clothing industry life cycle assessment working group" will jointly carry out the construction of LCA evaluation system and tools for textile products, investigate and develop the full life cycle material environment database and application cases of textile industry chain, and realize the standardized measurement and ecological analysis of many environmental indicators including carbon footprint, water footprint and chemical footprint of textile and related products Through the scientific method of product perspective, this paper analyzes the optimization path of energy conservation, emission reduction and carbon reduction of enterprises and products, and environmental management of supply chain, so as to strengthen the two-way collaborative Green Governance of industrial chain and value chain.

Background

On September 22, 2020, it was announced that China would enhance its national independent contribution, adopt more effective policies and measures, strive to reach its peak by 2030, and strive to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. On December 12, at the climate ambition summit, an important speech entitled "carrying forward the past and opening up a new journey for global response to climate change" was delivered via video, announcing that China's national contribution to a series of new initiatives and new emission reduction targets was announced. This is China's commitment to resolutely implement the "Bali agreement" to the world, and is also the determination to convey green development in the future to the world. On December 18, at the just concluded central economic work conference, it was clearly stated that we should do a good job in carbon peaking and carbon neutralization.

In recent years, the relevant policies of green manufacturing issued by the state emphasize the importance of life cycle assessment and green (ecological) design for promoting green, circular and low-carbon development. As the world's largest textile producer and the most important textile consumer in the future, China's textile and garment industry urgently needs to establish suitable LCA analysis and evaluation tools, localized database and information disclosure system. To this end, China Textile Industry Federation began to promote the key stakeholders in the industrial chain to jointly establish the textile and clothing industry life cycle assessment working group.
