In 2020, the export amount of Nicaraguan garment industry to the United States decreased by 398.2 million US dollars compared with the same period in 2019, with a decline of 21.55%. Dean Garcia, the Nicaraguan textile and garment industry association, said that the sharp growth in exports in March this year was the upward trend of the industrial boom. He believed that the export of Nicaraguan textile and garment industry in this year should be better than that of the same period of last year.
Pedro Ortega, Secretary of the Federation of trade unions of processing zones in Nicaragua, also said that it is estimated that the epidemic situation in the United States will slow down this year, and various restrictive measures will be reduced, so that commercial activities and people's livelihood demand will return to normal, and the export of finished textiles and garments will grow in a promising future.
In addition, in the first quarter of this year, Nicaraguan exported 133.79 million square meters of textile clothing, up 1.28 percent from 132.09 million square meters in the same period of last year. Among them, the export of cotton clothing reached 72.92 million square meters, with an amount of 280.4 million US dollars, an increase of 5.42 percent, ranking the first in exports. In addition, the export of man-made fiber textiles was 60.68 million square meters, The amount was 140 million US dollars, an increase of 8.55%.
