From February 16 to 25, Li Guimei, President of the China Industrial Textiles Industry Association, led a delegation to carry out technical textiles exchange and discussion with Deakin University and other units in Australia, and carried out research activities in Australia and New Zealand to deeply understand and investigate the technological innovation and market conditions of industrial textiles in both countries, actively expand local industry resources and build exchange platforms.

Discussion on Sino Australian Technical Textile Exchange

In Melbourne, Australia, the delegation, together with more than 30 representatives from Deakin University's Frontier Materials Research Institute (IFM), ARC Future Fiber Research Center, Carbon Fiber Research Center and local enterprises, participated in the technical textile exchange seminar between the Association and Deakin University, Australia.

Professor Chris Hurren of Frontier Materials Research Institute introduced the development and future planning of the Institute. As one of Australia's leading material research institutions, IFM is committed to the research of fiber, polymer materials, composite materials and textile materials, and maintains cooperative relations with more than 100 Australian local enterprises. IFM has also established a joint research center with the Australian Academy of Sciences to undertake a major research project on industrial transformation related to textile materials in the future. The project is jointly supported by the Australian Research Fund and some innovative enterprises in Australia, and cooperates with relevant international research teams. Its purpose is to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries in Australia. Chris Hurren also introduced the development progress of functional textile materials in Australia and the application of these materials in the fields of health care, security and structural reinforcement. At the same time, he also communicated with everyone about the recycling of waste textiles.

Dr. Sarmad Aslam of the research institute introduced the situation of the whole chain facilities and equipment related to the basic research on fibers, yarns, fabrics, etc. of Deakin University, and also introduced the progress of their research projects on green natural fibers based on high-quality wool and cotton in Australia. His research focuses on the environmental processing methods of these fibers, and also develops new types of cotton High value-added products and processing methods of animal fibers.

Dr. Li Quanxiang of the Research Institute introduced the ongoing work of Deakin University's carbon fiber center in the field of production, education and research. The center is jointly invested by Deakin University, the Victorian government and the Australian government. It has the most advanced research and analysis laboratory, and is characterized by the integration of carbon fiber production and composite material research, It can provide research and solutions for the whole process from molecular research and development to manufacturing. In recent years, more than 100 different types of precursor filaments have been carbonized. At the same time, it can provide a variety of composite processes for preparing test samples and producing small prototype products, and can conduct a variety of professional material analysis.

Li Guimei introduced the current situation of sustainable development of the industry. At present, China's industrial textile industry has green development ideas in the whole process from the greening of raw materials to the greening of production process to the green business flow and green logistics in the circulation link, as well as the rational consumption awareness of consumers in green consumption. She also focused on the technical innovation and industry development in the four key areas of textiles for medical and health, textiles for emergency security, textiles for filtration and separation, and textiles for structural reinforcement. At the same time, she also introduced the trade situation between China and Australia. In 2024, China's exports of industrial textiles to Australia totaled 955 million dollars, and the compound annual growth rate of China's exports of industrial textiles to Australia from 2015 to 2024 was 6.3%. At present, medical textiles and sail textiles are the top two categories of China's exports of industrial textiles to Australia. Finally, she pointed out that the global industrial textile industry is constantly developing towards high-end, green and digital. China's industrial textile market is broad and industrial innovation is active. China Australia industrial chain should continue to strengthen cooperation and play an important role in the global market together.

In the exchange session, Zhang Yun, the chairman of the Spunlaced Nonwovens Branch of China Association and the chairman of Hangzhou Road Advanced Materials Technology Co., Ltd., the delegation member, introduced the application of spunlaced nonwovens in the medical and health field, and Lu Zhuangling, the chairman of Zhejiang Australia Asia Co., Ltd., shared the experience of joint venture with Australia.

After the meeting, the delegation visited the laboratory of Frontier Materials Research Institute, ARC Future Fiber Research Center, Carbon Fiber Research Center and Deakin University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base.

Investigation, research and exchange in Australia

During their stay in Australia, the delegation also visited Andritz Fabric and Roller Company, the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and the University of Sydney. Andritz Fabric and Roller Company is a well-known enterprise in the field of innovative fabric, blanket, roller technology and service. In recent years, Huryk Wangner Weavexx、Stowe Woodward、Xibe/Stowe、Mount Hope、Robec、IRGA、JJ Plank And Spencer Johnston and other brands have been merged into Andritz, forming Andritz Fabric and Roller Company. During the visit, the relevant enterprises had in-depth exchanges on employee training management, equipment update iteration and other issues.

Founded in 1887, RMIT has a long history and excellent academic reputation. It is also famous for its interdisciplinary teaching and research, strong industry ties and practical education philosophy. Founded in 1850, the University of Sydney is the oldest university in the southern hemisphere, with strong research strength. Its inventions include cardiac pacemaker, black box, vacuum glass, WIFI wireless network technology, etc., which has made indelible contributions to the world's civilization and development. At the Royal Melbourne University of Technology, the delegation held a discussion with Rajiv Padhye, director of the Center for Material Innovation and Future Fashion of the Fashion Textile Institute, and Dr. Wang Xin, and exchanged views on functional and comfort testing of fire suits, protective clothing, baby diapers, etc. During the exchange, Li Zhihui, chairman of the delegation member Quantum Golden Boat Co., Ltd., introduced the latest application of melt blown nonwoven materials in filtration, sanitation and other fields, and Shen Kai, general manager of Jiangsu Pengwo New Material Technology Co., Ltd., introduced the progress of special finishing technology for automotive interior fabrics. The delegation members also visited the school's combustion dummy laboratory and human comfort testing laboratory.

Investigation, research and exchange in New Zealand

In New Zealand, the delegation visited Auckland University and Auckland University of Technology. The University of Auckland was founded in 1883. At present, there are 7 campuses and 9 colleges, among which the College of Creative Arts and Industry, the Academy of Medical and Health Sciences, and the College of Engineering have some research related to medical health and geotextiles. Founded in 1895, Auckland University of Technology has five university departments, 16 colleges, and more than 60 research institutes and research centers. The delegation had on-site exchanges on intelligent floors, intelligent fabrics, and other contents in the data science research center, and visited projects related to the intelligent engineering laboratory.

At the same time, the delegation also visited the Auckland Chamber of Commerce to have an in-depth understanding of the New Zealand market and investment environment.
