Lin Shengqin, A Chinese Businessman: A Difficult Journey From New York To Eastern Europe
Before leaving for Hungary from Russia, we felt as if we had had a long time with Budapest before Hungary went to Austria.
This is undoubtedly related to Petfi, a Hungarian poet.
His poem "freedom and love" has inspired several generations of Chinese, and is also engraved on our minds.
When we are really in Budapest, we find that many of the poets' appeals more than 100 years ago have come true.
The light of freedom and ideals not only flashes around the Statue of Liberty of Gillet peak, but also benefits many Hungarians.
Of course, there are more than 20 thousand overseas Chinese living here.
Budapest is known as "the city of freedom". During the days here, we met with Chinese businessmen after another.
They regard us as "family members" and tell us about their happiness and sorrow, fate and ups and downs.
The stories they tell are very mixed, thrilling, and even blood and tears. They are like a modern tragedies and comedies.
On the way to visit the "four tigers" market in Budapest, we met with the lady Lin Shengqin facing us.
Her hair was all ears, not ironed, neither a necklace nor a ring or bracelet.
At first glance, it is nothing more than a mediocre middle-aged woman.
She did not realize that her experience was like a big river.
Lin Shengqin was born in Qingtian, Zhejiang. Her father was a stone carventer. When she was young, she followed her father to study skills. She worked for 16 years.
When she moved to Hongkong in 1980 with her husband in New York, she first went to the garment factory to make a driver. He made some money and went to a small grocery store.
At first, she didn't know English, and when the guests bought her goods, she sold it to the West and sold it out of nowhere.
The language can not be learned slowly, so that Lin Shengqin can not bear to be repeatedly robbed.
"In three or four years, we were robbed 8 times!
Every time it was a narrow escape.
At that time, I really felt that I could not live abroad. "
She said with a lingering fear.
"One day, an Asian kid suddenly broke into my house, took out a pistol, and asked me to hand over the money.
I was prepared for this unexpected money and handed it to him from the drawer.
"On the second day, I came into the house from the outside, and suddenly I was shocked. That kid was holding his daughter's forehead with a gun.
My daughter cried with fright, and I had to give it up again.
"On the third morning, my husband went out to work in another grocery store across two streets. I wouldn't let him go.
He said, where can we grab two and grab three?
As a result, he left his foreleg, and the boy broke into the door again, forcing himself out of the gun.
A few days later, in a park, I saw the robber and told him to the police station.
But his mother came to me and asked me to give his son a message.
When I saw no permission, the mother dropped a sentence. "Anyway, my son is still young, he will find you out of prison, and then go away."
Lin Shengqin was able to swallow his voice again and again, but he could not bear it at last.
It's a bunch of yellow skinned bully, who goes to her store every week to blackmail $368 in "protection fees".
But once, I took the money the first day and charged second days later.
Lin Shengqin could no longer control her emotions. She lifted the right hand that had held the graver, and rushed over, and the face of the leader's head swelled up.
"In a few minutes, the seven or eight 20 year old boys rushed in with the blundering leader. When they entered the room, they said no more, they cut off their trousers and rushed towards me.
Hoodlum!
Scum!
Beast!!!
I hate it!
Copy a kitchen knife and snap, "Whoever dares to go, I'll cut it down!"
The husband was also mad. He rushed out of the door and shouted to the police. The gang was scared away.
New York, which is overlooked by the statue of liberty, does not guarantee the freedom and security of Chinese people.
When Lin Shengqin was in despair, she suddenly heard friends say that in the Hungary of the other side of the ocean, the Chinese made money just like "loading the sand".
Pack up your bags and fly to a fellow townsman in Budapest.
"The first night I looked at them and pointed out 2 million 500 thousand Folin bills, and second nights, 4 million 800 thousand!
At that time, the exchange rate between flint and the US dollar was 100 to 1, which equals to tens of thousands of dollars a day.
On the third day, I registered the company with 2 million Fulin and fell off at the 25 stall in the four tiger market.
8 containers, "Danube shoes", which had entered the first time, earned 280 thousand dollars.
But second batches and third batches of shoes are not degumming or deforming, but they can not be sold at all.
Lin Shengqin lost 1 million 280 thousand dollars at a time, and his savings for years were wasted.
"I go back to the United States to discuss with my husband, take out the last 180 thousand dollars of the pension for the old age pension, and Hungary's Chinese food is sold at a much higher price than in China. We only have this chance."
"My husband knows that I am not defeated.
I bought a container of Chinese food from the United States and shipped it to Hungary, but I was stuck by the customs and said it would be tested. Not only for one species, but also for months.
When I was so worried, my son called and said that he had completed the entry formalities.
In early 1995, Lin Sheng Qin's "universal food supermarket" opened, followed by 3 stores in Austria, Slovakia and Hungary's Baden lake.
Despite the increasingly fierce competition in food retailing, she has been able to freely enter Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries to buy goods because she holds American passports, which is better than other food stores.
So far, she has purchased two buildings in Budapest, and supermarkets and restaurants are getting bigger and bigger.
She was also elected director of the women's Department of the European Union of Chinese women and the president of the Federation of Hungarian Chinese women.
Looking back at the past, Lin Shengqin wrote this sentence with tears and tears: "as time goes by, many things will disappear from people's memory.
But when the dust falls to the ground, it remains in my mind: "business is hard and wars are many. The rainbow is always in the wind and rain."
As long as you keep fighting and working hard, your life will be beautiful. "
