Yang Chengjie, President of the China leather and footwear industry research institute, also said that many people have misunderstandings about the leather industry, and think leather is a serious and non polluting industry. "This is totally misunderstood." He said that the leather industry is a pollutant discharge industry, but the total volume is not big (about 1 billion tons), the proportion is not high (accounting for 0.47% of the total industrial sewage discharge), tannery sewage treatment technology is mature, and the cost is not high (about 0.10 yuan per square foot leather).
Yang Chengjie pointed out that there are four developing trends in leather industry in the future. This is also the only way to upgrade leather industry. "From capital type to technology pfer, from product quantity type to brand type, from enterprise decentralized mode to industrial cluster mode, from developed area to sub developed area."
