Advertising Marketing Skills: Learn To Listen
Negative feedback may be hard to accept, but it can guide you in the right direction.
One day, I asked Mona, President of Rich Dad Company, how she felt about the draft of my new book, which will be launched this autumn. She took a deep breath: "I am disappointed in it. It lacks impact and far from what I expected."
Her words gave me a head start and felt that my heart was going to be punctured. I didn't make any response. Once I regain my composure, I begin to appreciate Mona's candor and courage. I asked her what was missing in the book and how we should improve it. (then, I should be glad to say that the amendment is progressing smoothly.) Negative feedback is really hard to accept, and giving feedback is not easy. We all like to give or hear positive feedback. But in fact, both positive and negative feedback is essential to personal growth, character development and business persistence.
The world is a huge feedback loop. For example, when your accountant gives you the financial statements, this is how smart he is, or how stupid you are, as an entrepreneur. When you step on the scale, you also look forward to feedback. Many people never walk on a weight scale or check his financial situation because they do not want to receive feedback. They want to pretend that everything is fine.
In business activities, if your advertisement does not bring sales growth, this is a feedback. If a customer walks into your store, he buys nothing and goes out, which is also a feedback. Blogging is also a kind of feedback. My rich dad often tells me, "there are two kinds of feedback: face to face feedback and back feed." He saw some businessmen frowning around him full of "yes" people. He told us: "people who only say" yes "are dangerous. They usually face you well, but they hurt you behind their back.
Someone feels feedback on the surface, but I feel it with my heart. Some people just put feedback in their oral language, while others feel that feedback is unforgettable. Next time, if you can really respond to what you hear from your heart, thank you for your sincere feedback and gain experience from it. Face-to-face feedback requires communication and both sides have great courage, while cowards have other ways of communicating.
One of my most important tasks as an entrepreneur is to open the door and welcome all kinds of feedback, whether positive or negative. If I do not want to listen to feedback, sincere communication will become a ceremonial perfunctory, the company will struggle hard, customers will be lost. If you want to be successful, be brave enough to stand on the weight scale to see how heavy it is, read the financial reports to understand the real situation of the business, and ask for feedback. Good or bad.
