    "The cooperation between the company and China Textile Science Research Institute lasted 6 years, and successfully realized the localization of a long monopolized industry in foreign countries." Dai Houyi said, in the end, this high-tech project was awarded the first prize of "textile light" technology award in 2009 by China Textile Industry Association.


    Environmental pressure increased


    PPS fiber demand increased


    With the increasing control of dust and tail gas sources, since January 1, 2004, coal-fired boilers in thermal power plants and other industries have implemented 50mg/m3 emission standards. In order to achieve this standard, filter bag dust removal has become the main way of dust removal. Due to the high demand for materials and functionality of municipal waste incineration, coal-fired boiler emissions and flue gas emissions from power plants, the PPS fiber as the leading material for high-temperature corrosion resistant filter bags has been formed and expanded year by year in the domestic market. The demand has maintained an annual growth rate of over 20%, and the supply of products is in short supply.


    But PPS fiber has been monopolized by foreign companies. According to the survey data, as early as the 70s of last century, the Phillips company of the United States has already obtained the patent of PPS. In 1979, a high molecular weight linear PPS resin suitable for spinning was synthesized, and industrialized production was achieved. The PPS material with "Ryton" was produced and put into the market. Before 1985, Phillips company in the United States monopolized the production and market of PPS.


    In just a few years after the expiration of Phillips's patents, Japanese companies have established resin and compound processing plants, and Dongli, Dongfang and Wu Yu have successively developed PPS fibers, becoming the most important suppliers of PPS fibers in the Chinese market.


    China began to study PPS fibers in early 1990s. 1990~1996 Sichuan Textile Industry Research Institute and Sichuan University and other units in cooperation with the national "863 Plan" research and development of PPS fiber, has been included in the Sichuan provincial science and Technology Commission, the Sichuan Provincial Planning Commission, the former Ministry of textile industry's key technical research project plan, and through the acceptance appraisal, the technology level reached the leading position in China. Tsinghua University and Tianjin Textile Institute of technology have also studied PPS fibers. But no matter scientific research institutes or manufacturers, they only set up a small scale trial production device with an annual output of several tons to several hundred tons.


    Breaking the monopoly of foreign PPS fiber was in 2008. In January 11th of that year, the production line of 5000 tons PPS fiber, which was built by the China Academy of textile science and made of PPS resin and the largest domestic product, was put into operation in the company. PPS fiber was successfully spun out successfully on the same day. After testing, the fiber has excellent performance and has reached the advanced level of similar products abroad. Taking this as a symbol, the domestic PPS fiber has achieved leaping development.


    Sincere cooperation for 6 years


    The 5000 ton production line is rooted in the sun.


    In 2007, the company built the largest 6000 ton / year PPS fiber grade resin production plant. On this basis, the company hopes to do something in the industrialization of PPS fiber. In 2003, after a long time of contact, the company agreed with the China Textile Research Institute and signed a cooperation agreement. The two sides agreed that the China Textile Academy of Sciences is responsible for the technical research and development of PPS fiber, and after the success of the research and development, it will sign a production contract with the company and realize mass production. "Domestic PPS (polyphenylene sulfide) resin, fiber industrialization technology development and application" project officially launched.


    At the end of 2004, the Chinese Academy of textile science produced PPS short fiber in batches by using PPS resin made in China. During the pilot scale enlargement, PPS fiber spinning key equipment and complete technology were successfully developed, and PPS short fiber was produced and processed into filter bag. It was applied to flue filter system, and has been praised by users for more than two years online operation. The success of the pilot scale laid the foundation for the production of thousand ton grade staple fiber.


    Dai Houyi said, the equipment installation aspect, the company quickly and vigorously, in January 2008, the thousand tons of short fiber production line completed all the design, construction and installation and commissioning, and a successful feeding. After testing, the products are close to or exceeding Japanese imports in terms of mechanical properties, heat resistance and corrosion resistance. Dai Hou Yi's pride is beyond words.


    So what are the difficulties in the research of PPS fiber? Huang Qing, director of the Research Institute of melt spinning, China Textile Science Research Institute, gave the answer.


    He said, "PPS fiber has excellent chemical resistance, high temperature resistance and flame retardancy. It has been internationally recognized as the preferred filter material for airbag dust removal in coal-fired power plants. At the same time, it has been widely applied in the field of civil products and military products such as flame retardancy and heat insulation of aircraft, dielectric insulation of electronic industry and so on, and has become an important member of high technology fiber. It is these excellent properties that make PPS fiber the best choice for making filter bags.


    In this project, through the high selectivity, high activity, easy separation complex catalyst technology and gas, liquid cross flow and compound stirring technology, the full closed purification of polyphenylene sulfide has been realized, the equipment efficiency and product purity have been improved, and the breakthrough of production technology of fiber grade polyphenylene sulfide resin has been achieved for the first time in China. For the first time, the project group built the first set of domestic cross flow polycondensation reactors with engineering enlargement design to ensure stable and high molecular weight and narrow distribution of the products. Meanwhile, from the single batch batch production to the multi pot semi continuous process technology, the production capacity of the plant was greatly improved.


    In terms of hardware development, the project creatively developed continuous sulfur removal key equipment, special screw extruder, high temperature heat medium box, high temperature and high pressure biphenyl filament box and high temperature multi-stage drafting machine and other special key equipment for polyphenylene sulfide filament, which ensured the success of the project's industrialization.


    In 2009, the project was appraised by 9 senior industry experts such as Jiang Shicheng and Yao Mu of the Chinese Academy of engineering. It was finally awarded the first prize of "textile light" technology award by China Textile Industry Association. "This indicates that China has successfully broken the long-term technical blockade of foreign countries, and has the capability of developing and producing high-performance polyphenylene sulfide fibers independently. It has created conditions for the separation of chemical industry and military industry, especially in the production of high-performance fiber products in environmental protection projects." Dai Houyi said that the project is based on the complete localization of complete sets of technologies, forming a complete technical chain of "resin development - fiber development - downstream application" and provides a new mode for the development of high technology fiber in China. The success of the project has played an important role in promoting the structural adjustment and upgrading of China's chemical fiber industry.
