Li Kaifu: Ten Inspiration For Growing Up
Li Kaifu (December 3, 1961 -) is an information industry executive and computer science researcher. In 1998, Li Kaifu joined Microsoft Corp and then founded the Microsoft China Research Institute (now Microsoft Asia Research Institute). He joined Google (Google) in July 20, 2005 and served as vice president of global Google (Google) and President of China. In September 4, 2009, he announced his departure and set up an Innovation workshop as chairman and chief executive officer.
Li Kaifu : Grow up Medium Ten inspiration
First, be confident and modest.
When I was 4 years old, I said to my parents, "kindergarten is too boring. I don't want to go to school. I want to go to primary school."
Mom looked at me confidently and clapped, "if you can do it, you can go."
Luckily, I got into the exam. Because my parents were too young, my parents volunteered to help me connect with private schools.
One day, when my neighbor aunt saw me, she joked with me: "can you read it?"
"I haven't seen 99 scores yet."
The implication is 100 points each time.
A week later, I went home with 90 points of my examination paper, and my mother made a real effort.
Mother was very angry: "I remember what you said to your aunt the other day. I didn't beat you because I didn't get good grades, but I was too arrogant."
Since then, I have learned this lesson and benefited from my lifelong self confidence, but I must be modest in my confidence.
Two, talent is interest, interest is talent.
At the age of ten, I started studying in the United States.
When I was in high school, I started my first business, and I made a snap ring with my classmates, because the customers were their parents, so they made some money. In the second year, I asked my tutor to come back again, and I wanted to find a real customer.
At that time, the school changed the lunch time from 70 minutes to 50 minutes, and the students had great opinions. We seized the opportunity to sell T-shirts printed with "I want long lunch" and sold them to our classmates.
Many years later, someone asked me, "I don't know what I like to do." I told him: "I'll find more time to find interest; if I can't find it again, I'll give you a secret: talent is interest, interest is talent."
Three. Thinking is more important than missionary work.
When I was in University, I chose computer department with interest.
Nick, director of the Department, conveys an idea to us that thinking is more important than missionary work.
Education is the thing left behind when knowledge is forgotten, that is, the ability to learn.
Four, I disagree with you, but I support you.
In the graduation thesis, there was a little trouble, which was different from the direction of the tutor.
Is it against authority or insisting on my own ideas? The mentor's attitude towards me is - I don't agree with you, but I support you.
Not only did I make my own attempt, but he also won financial support for me. His words are so impressive: "in the field of science, we should have a mind and everyone is equal."

Five, setbacks are not punishment, but opportunities for learning.
After graduation, one of the tasks is to teach a group of talented high school students to program. After 8 weeks of teaching, 60 students are qualified.
I am happy to get the salary from the dean.
On the table of the Dean there was a pile of students' comments on the teacher. I asked to see the result.
The students called me a nickname and called my classroom the "8 point recovery theater", saying that my courses were so sleepy that God knew how good I felt at that time.
But setbacks are not punishment, but opportunities for learning.
I took the initiative to ask the popular teachers. They taught me that they should have eye contact in teaching. If they were shy, they would see the top of the last row of students. When they were on stage, they could not see you trembling when they pressed the podium.
So far, I have kept these habits.
Six, innovation is not important. Useful innovation is important.
After two years of teaching, I joined apple, and then I went to SGI.
SGI has made a cool 3D browser. Has anyone ever used it? No, of course, because of the failure, the team of about 100 people and 90 people finally lost their jobs.
Why did such a cool product fail? Because scientists make products, the standard of measurement is "new", but the industry first requires "useful".
The same is true for our businesses. Innovation is not important. Useful innovation is important.
Seven, we need to use courage to change things that can be changed, to accept things that we cannot change with our bosom, and to distinguish the differences with wisdom.
In 2005, when Google was going to enter China, I wanted to change jobs. As a result, Microsoft was very angry and serious. It brought me and Google to court. Microsoft used tens of millions of dollars to hire top lawyers to stop me. The media also questioned my integrity.
With all my knowledge of law and computer, I succeeded in winning the case.
Sometimes, we need to use courage to change things that can be changed, accept things that we can't change with our bosom, and distinguish the difference between them by wisdom.
Eight, if you ask for hunger, you will be modest.
In September 2005, I started my job in Google, where I learned not only the most accurate search technology, the largest data center, the best innovation mode, and how to build a company that engineers most aspire to.
A survey in the United States has changed an average of 4 to 5 jobs in a person's life.
If we hunger for knowledge, if we are modest, we will remain forever.
Nine, follow your heart and use it to lead your life. Everything else is secondary.
Everyone has something to insist on.
Follow your heart and use it to lead your life. Everything else is secondary.
Don't let anyone's opinions drown out your heart.
Ten, the value of a person is not how much you have, but how much you have left.
This time I chose the Innovation workshop, which was set up in September this year. I try 20 new ideas every year and separate 3-5 independent operation companies. My goal is to make it into a Whampoa military academy.
Is this choice correct? What is the purpose of life? Is it money? Will it be happier after getting it? What is your value?
A person's value is not how much you have, but how much you leave.
I hope that a hundred years later, my epitaph will leave behind such a passage: Li Kaifu (1961-20??), enthusiastic educator, through writing, Internet and speech, he helped many young students in the era of China's rise, they kindly called him: "resume teacher!"
