Inez Tenenbaum, chairman of the Commission (Inez Tenenbaum), said in January 10th that the number of "recall" made by the US against China's exports last year has dropped significantly since 2008, but China has increased the number of recalls.

    Degree is still imminent.

In a small media interview held by the US embassy, Baum presented the relevant data: in 2008, the United States recalled 346 incidents of Chinese products, accounting for about 61% of the total number of recalls in the United States. Last year, the figure dropped to 220, accounting for about 51% of the total number.

As the protagonist of many "recall" events, 172 children recalled toys in 2008, including 19 recall caused by excessive lead. Last year, the figure was only 44, of which only 3 were due to excessive lead.

"We see that China has made great progress in improving the quality of export products," Baum said. "I think the main reason for this progress in the production of children's products is that after 2008, we require Chinese export products to obtain third party inspection laboratories' quality inspection certificate to export."

In 2008, the US government promulgated the consumer goods safety improvement act to ensure that consumer goods imported by the United States comply with relevant safety standards. The bill carries out compulsory third party testing on certain children's products. Once investigated, the product may be prohibited from importing, or even eventually, exporters lose the share of the US market.

Baum said that the United States hopes to adopt a preventive based approach rather than "recall" to improve the quality of imported products and ensure the safety of consumers.

To this end, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission set up a special office in China this month to establish close ties with China's General Administration of quality supervision, inspection and quarantine, local governments and related enterprises.

"Experts in special offices and consumer goods safety in China are the first in history, and there are no precedents in other parts of the world," Baum said.

"Because of the importance of Chinese products, we have wanted to build such an office for many years, but we haven't found any funding sources before.

With this office, Chinese enterprises can always consult what standards the United States has, and let the AQSIQ maintain more direct contact with us. "

According to Jeff Hilsgen, the counselor of the office, his main task is to maintain close communication with the China Quality Supervision Bureau, grasp the resources, and go to the province to work with the local departments to implement the practice standards of the United States. He Jiefu,

Besides China, his field of work also covers other countries in the Asia Pacific region, such as Vietnam, Thailand and Australia.

Baum said the team's work does not include issuing quality assurance certificates in China.

After a brief visit to Beijing, Baum and his entourage will go to Hongkong to attend the toy exhibition, sign a memorandum on information exchange, and sign a memorandum of understanding in Australia.
