Chinese Fashion Design Focuses On Creativity And Internationalization.
China Daily reported on February 22nd: Although many fashion people recognize China's huge potential as a luxury consumer market, few successful Chinese designers and design companies are seen.
However, the third Creative Sky costume design competition is currently on the hot stage, and a TV show shows people's creativity and exquisite skills.
Similar to the Project Runway, a popular designer competition in the United States, designers have been asked to design works with prescribed themes within a specified period of time.
The final winner will receive a full scholarship from the Parson Institute of design, which has one of the best design projects in the world.
According to the competition producer Zou Yitian, the final of the second "creative window" attracted about 10 million spectators.
In the interview with China Daily, Zou said: "the success of the design competition in China reflects the desire for creativity.
Linking creativity with industry is still a relatively new concept in China. This is what the design competition is going to say, and it is also why the competition is so popular.
The first champion, Zhao Qianyan, 29, was a tall boy with a serious look most of the time.
He is studying for a bachelor's degree in women's clothing at Parson School of design.
The avant-garde design style makes it seem that he can well integrate into the design field of New York.
Zhao accepted an interview with China Daily at the school's studio.
"I feel very lucky."
He said his success came from family support: "unlike most Chinese families, my parents have always given me a very free space to choose from.
I did all this for my mother, though she did not ask me to achieve it.
Zhao, who was awarded the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the central Saint Martin School of art and design in London, has participated in the competition at the request of his mother.
Zhao Qichu was skeptical because he thought "the winners of many Chinese design competitions have been pre established".
But when he knew that the judges of the contest included de Riklin, a world-renowned Chinese American designer and President of the Fashion Institute of Parson School of design, Zhao was convinced of the authenticity of the competition.
Simon Collins, who has served as the judge of the two "Creative Star Competition", has fully affirmed Zhao's talent.
"He is very, very good."
Collions said.
"He has tried some cutting methods that are very experimental, which has completely broken the presupposition of people for a costume.
He is also the only one contestant to integrate all his works into a whole series.
His victory is obvious. "
Lam is also impressed by Zhao's performance in the contest.
"There is no doubt that the skills of Chinese fashion designers can be comparable to those of other countries."
Lam said, "I have seen some works of Chinese designers before the competition. I am amazed at their craft and hope to go beyond the conventional spirit of exploration.
That's why I agree to be the judge of the contest.
Lam believes that the interaction between different cultures is very important.
"As a designer, you can constantly experience different cultures.
From this, you will get inspiration and then inspire you to explore new ideas.
We are not simply saying that Chinese designers need to go out to learn fashion, and Western designers also need to go to Asia to find inspiration.
Zhao did not simply want to design skills in Parson. "I know very well that I can pform what is painted on a drawing into a realistic fashion.
But marketing is something I'm not familiar with.
If you don't understand the market and if you want to sell your design, it's still zero. "
Zhao said.
"In addition to learning from the masters, we also have the opportunity to learn other practical things."
Zhao plans to stay in the United States or work in London after graduation, and also plans to display his work in China.
However, he still believes there are more opportunities in western countries.
"In China, relations are very important.
But in the United States, if you are really good, you will have a chance to become famous.
Zhao believes that China's education system for training designers needs to be improved.
"Many people who want to learn fashion forget the word" creativity ", not the word" follow. "
Collions also approved Zhao's view.
"Young designers in China should have enough confidence to stand up and sell something different."
Zhao said that during the competition, he saw some players imitate the existing works.
"After a task is assigned, some contestants will look for other designers' works, which I think is not very good."
Zhao encountered many competitive opponents during the competition.
He laughed and said, "there are many excellent contestants who don't like me very much."
Zhao recalled that he often had some conflicts with other contestants, but he also found his lover through the contest, which was also Yang Yang of the contestant.
Now, they have formed their happy little family.
Zhao believes that his character is also the ultimate reason for winning the competition, and this character may continue to support him in the fashion industry.
"I do what I want to do and say what I want to say, even if it makes some people unhappy.
I think the fashion industry is carrying out a revolution. I firmly believe that I am different.
I am me.
