China occupies a very important position.

In recent years, in order to reduce production costs and enhance competitiveness, Hongkong textile, printing and dyeing and garment production plants have mostly moved to the mainland and Southeast Asian countries. Hongkong's trend from a textile and garment processing center to a textile and garment production control center and Trade Center is becoming increasingly evident.

The textile trade in Hongkong was mainly re exports in 50s. With the establishment and development of the textile industry, the import of raw materials and the export of local products continued to increase.

Since 80s, as factories moved to mainland China and Southeast Asia, the number of processed raw materials, semi-finished products and finished products sold frequently, and the re export trade increased sharply, thus driving the growth of the overall textile trade.

At present, the import of textiles in Hongkong is mainly for pshipment, accounting for nearly 80% of the total value, and only 10% of the sales are retained. The re export volume of textiles has far exceeded the total volume of textile exports. This reflects that the focus of Hongkong textile exports has shifted from local processing exports to re export trade.

Hongkong is currently the third largest textile exporter in the world, with the volume and amount of exports being second only to mainland China and India.

In recent years, the global economic downturn has led to a decline in demand for textile fabrics, and textile producers in Hongkong have been unable to do their best. In 2010, the total export volume of textiles in Hongkong was 11 billion 263 million US dollars, up 13.6% compared to the US $9 billion 914 million in 2009; the local export amount was 250 million US dollars, down 10% compared with 278 million US dollars in 2009; the re export amount was 11 billion 1 million 200 thousand US dollars, which was 14.3% higher than the 9 billion 636 million US dollars in 2009.

Textile yarn accounts for more than 29%, followed by woven cotton, knitted fabric and so on.

Mainland China has always been Hongkong.

The largest export market, according to the statistics of the Hongkong Government Statistics Department, in 2010, the total volume of textiles exported to China in Hongkong was 8 billion 2 million US dollars, up 12.9% from the US $7 billion 89 million in 2009, accounting for 71% of the total textile exports in Hongkong, followed by Vietnam (5.3%), Indonesia (3.6%), Kampuchea (3.2%), Bangladesh (3.1%), Sri Lanka (1.6%), Thailand (1.5%) and the United States (1.5%).

Mainland China is also the largest market for textile imports in Hongkong, and Hongkong is from mainland China in 2010.

The total volume was $7 billion 200 thousand, up 10.3% from the US $6 billion 348 million in 2009, accounting for 62.4% of the total textile imports in Hongkong.

Hongkong is currently the largest cloth export market in Taiwan. Data show that in 2010, the total imports of cloth imported from Taiwan amounted to 1 billion 37 million US dollars, up 13.1% from the US $917 million in 2009, and Taiwan's exports to Hongkong accounted for more than 15% of the total export volume of textiles, much higher than that of other major export markets.

At the same time, Hongkong is also the third largest market for textiles and clothing exported to Taiwan after the US and Japan.

By the end of 2010, there were more than 870 textile factories in Hongkong, and more than 4000 companies engaged in textile products trade, employing more than 30 thousand employees.
