The Legend Of Kate Wood Jewelry Accessories, A Classic Art Nurtured By Nature
Kate Wood I majored in French at university, and worked as a museum administrator after graduation. Until 2005, she started her own jewelry design business and began to sell her design works in the London markets such as Spitalfields and Portobello. She gradually formed her own organic design style and attracted the attention of some galleries and boutiques. At present, several British galleries have represented her works, and the famous Cockpit Arts in Holborn, London, has also exhibited her all handmade jewelry design works.
designer Interview: Kate Wood from Glint brand was born in 2005 due to her dissatisfaction with the strict hierarchical system of large enterprises and her love for beautiful things. From branches to berries, the brand draws inspiration from everything in nature. Let's learn more about this brand and its designers. Hello, Kate. Please introduce yourself to us. I grew up in Wiltshire, in the southwest of England. I studied French in a university in London, and then worked as a museum administrator, but I always took jewelry design as a hobby. My life partner and I live together in Dalston, northeast London. She is an acupuncturist and works in my studio in Cockpit Arts, Holborn.
You said you started designing jewelry when you were young. How did you start?
I was very creative when I was young, and I especially liked painting and designing things - for example, stringing a piece of jewelry with beads. I often go to the bead shop in Bath (another city near London) to buy crystals alone, and I often put randomly found things into my works. I used to make a necklace out of metal tubes, colored wooden beads and a small piece of leather rope - a little hippie style, I like that necklace very much! Of course, after so many years, my works have become more refined and stable.
You said that nature and some small details that are often ignored will become the source of your inspiration. Why?
I like small details - I like to stare at the details of some objects or plants, something that no one usually notices, but they have their own unique beauty and magic. Maybe I am a short-sighted person. I think everything is very big, which is reflected in the lines on the beads in my works and the fineness of my works.
Before creating your own brand, you worked as a museum administrator. What prompted you to change your career direction? I like making things. I hope to work for myself and do the work I love. So when I was wearing jewelry designed by myself and people asked me where I could buy these jewelry, I decided to open a stall to sell my designs. I also like the work of the museum, but the hierarchy there is uncomfortable, and you can't exert your influence.
I like working for myself, and when I do this job, your work is directly related to your income, which is very meaningful. When you first founded this brand, you chose to sell products in the famous Spitalfields and Portobello in London. How did this experience affect you? Or what has this experience taught you? When I first started selling retro style jewelry and semi precious stones, I could see how people reacted to my works. This experience helped me build self-confidence and develop my own style. Sitting in the market, talking with people about their own works and looking at their own works will help to summarize and refine their own design ideas. How would you describe your own work? Exquisite, elegant, full of femininity and unique personality.
As a designer, what do you think is the most important trait you have? Be faithful to design. What kind of women is Glint designed for? My works have attracted a variety of women from 20 to 60 years old. They are very fashionable, but they are not fashion slaves. They like high-quality products and beautiful designs.

What do you think of the newcomers Design What suggestions do you have?
Just do it! I don't want you to give up your original job just on a whim, but you can try to test the water first, try to sell your design, and then make a decisive decision. Join some designer groups (such as Craft Central and Hidden Art in London), from which you can get some good suggestions, get to know other designers, and stick to creation and strive to improve your own works.
As a jewelry designer, what makes you most proud?
I finished these things by myself, and wearing the jewelry I designed will make women feel beautiful.
What is fashion to you?
It's a way to express yourself, a way to feel good about yourself. What will Glint do next? I plan to hold an exhibition at Origin, a famous exhibition, and I am very glad to have the opportunity to participate in this exhibition. At the exhibition, I will use my own name Kate Wood to relaunch my products. My booth number is D24, and I will release some new works at this exhibition.
