In November 2014, K11 Art Foundation and PALAIS DE TOKYO (Tokyo Palace) jointly held the first joint planned exhibition in Paris, France.
The K11 Art Foundation and the Tokyo palace jointly signed a three year wide cooperation agreement in mid January this year, aiming at promoting cross-cultural communication, exploring the most outstanding new art force in China and pushing their works to the international stage.
The exhibition is in France.
Frieze Art Fair
(FIAC) opening period.
All works will be exhibited in Paris until January 2015 and will be shown at the Chi K11 Museum in Shanghai, China in May 2015.
The "Inside China" exhibition is jointly planned by Jo-ey Tang, Tokyo palace curator in Paris and Wang Chunchen of the Art Museum of China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, with five Chinese artists to talk to three French artists.
Among them, Chinese artists Li Gang, Wu Hao, Zhao Yao, Edwin Lo and Yu Ji were selected by the director of the Tokyo Palace Jean de Loisy and curators after visiting more than 100 studios in ten cities in the Greater China region.
Their works clearly express the challenges that artists encounter in their respective creative systems, including overwork, monumental work and rapid development of the environment. They start a dialogue with French artists in a new form of display, thus forming a new collision between adjacency and creation.
K11 Art Foundation was founded in 2010 by Mr. Zheng Zhigang. It has become the most active platform for local contemporary art promotion in China, and is committed to continuously developing new forces for the global art, design and creative ecosystem.
"Inside China" is an exploration in the unknown field brought by K11 Art Foundation, and it is also a bold attempt.
Zheng Zhigang commented: "this time
exhibition
Is the real meaning of 'first time'.
We hope to cultivate contemporary artists in both China and France through the resources and platforms of China and France.
We hope that''Inside China''can really extend the most creative art talents in the Greater China region to the first-line art platform, so that the audiences in the world will have a richer and more diverse understanding of Chinese art.
Among the new generation of contemporary artists, Chinese artists have an incomparable advantage of information resources and are often influenced by world events.
Their works are no longer focused on the history of China and China as they did in the past. Instead, they put a local story in a global perspective, giving China a new voice and a new China identity.
Brief introduction of art works
The exhibition was unveiled in nineteenth Century by French photographer, illustrator and novelist NADAR (1820-1910), L''INT e RIEUR DU G e ANT (within the giant), and its pioneering aerial photography art will lead to a new field of perception.
Li Gang (b.1986) - is good at responding to the pace of changes in his hometown with the traditional crafts in Dali, Yunnan.
Inspired by the two symbolic elements in the rural urbanization change, the artists collected the residual carbon materials in the exhaust gas after exhausting in more than 1000 exhaust pipes.
And through many processes to make it into ink block, and then converted to wall works.
Li Gang delivered the social phenomenon of rural urbanization to the public with mature artistic expression.
And another group of works, "the texture of oil painting", explores the relationship between the content and form of painting itself in a detached manner.
Wu Hao (b.1985) - at its multiple levels
works
Record and present the compressed time.
The scroll door is an output of the artist's personal feelings, collected by small streets and alleys in Wuhan.
After considering factors such as location, age and visual effects, this unbroken scroll door is replaced by artists and shopkeepers repeatedly and replaced with new ones in the exhibition hall. The whole process takes pictures and videos to record the story and time behind the door.
Another work, water mark plan, uses liquid products as a carrier to present the water marks collected by artists for seven months in Wuhan, Shanghai and Hongkong. The collection process is also a feedback from urban characteristics.
The two works of art are performed by artists and the public, and artists do not interfere with the final formation of works.
Cheng Ran (b.1981) - as a special item of the exhibition, Cheng ran talks about building space with imaging devices.
The new Joss is a collaboration with item idem (French artist and designer Cyril Duval).
The term "Joss" originally refers to paper money and paper patterns burned in tribute to the deceased in Chinese traditional culture.
In this video, artists put the paper patterns burned into the contemporary consumer culture.
The video slowly unfolded, recording all kinds of burnt paper offerings, from fashion products, electronics and fast food to popular culture.
In the festive and destruction, prosperity and exhaustion of fuzzy boundaries, to retrieve the desire of the present society.
It is reported that in December 4th, Cheng Ran's series of images will be shown in the Tokyo Palace Cinema (Salle 37 Hall).
The exhibition included Renaud Jerey (b.1982) - Berlin, who specializes in using waste materials such as PVC pipes, paints, latex gloves and sportswear.
Aude Pariset (b.1983) - its device enables people to experience the vanity and reality in the realm of "fashion life".
Edwin Lo (b.1984) is specially designed to create a three month long vocal cords for recording the oil from the tanker tanker.
Yu Ji (b.1985) - an artist focusing on process oriented works, showing her unique insight into time perception.
Zhao Yao (b.1981) - integrates the images of collective protest movements into his works to explore how language and ideology trigger actions and conflicts.
"Inside China" is the first series of joint curatorial exhibitions in the three year cooperation agreement signed by K11 Art Foundation and the "Tokyo Palace".
In addition, there will be various exhibitions, programmes, curatorial exchanges, outreach and educational exchanges.
"Inside China" is also a new highlight of the 50th anniversary series of Sino French diplomatic relations after the success of the Shanghai K11 art space in the recent "Metamorphosis of the Virtual 5 + 5" and "Master of Impressionism-Claude Monet".
