The scientific research strength of ramie planting and processing industry in China also accounts for half of Hunan's strength.

In the 80s and 90s of last century, the ramie industry in Hunan reached its peak. With the fluctuation of the market and increasingly stringent environmental protection policy, a number of ramie production enterprises were gradually closed down. Farmers lost enthusiasm in planting ramie and their output value continued to shrink.

Peng Yuande deplored this.

In sharp contrast, the practical value of ramie has been discovered by people.

Studies have shown that ramie has strong tolerance and absorptive capacity to heavy metals, and is one of the potential crops for heavy metal remediation in Hunan province.

The protein content of ramie leaves is more than 20%, which is a rare high protein feed in the south area. Ramie by-products are high quality raw materials for high-grade edible fungi cultivation, and their practical value is greatly ignored.

Peng Yuande emphasized in particular that through technological innovation, there has been a good solution to the pollution problem that has been criticized in the process of ramie production and processing.

To this end, he issued the call to save the traditional ramie industry in Hunan.

With planting tradition, technological support, market demand and everything, how can we reinvigorate the ramie industry?

Peng Yuande put forward his own proposals. First of all, the establishment of ramie industry technology alliance, focusing on technological bottlenecks, development of green degumming technology to achieve cleaner processing.

Second, increase government policy support and stabilize ramie production in Hunan.

Thirdly, 1-2 ramie high tech processing zones are built in the main ramie producing area, and centralized treatment of degumming sewage, reducing costs and environmental protection production.

Finally, we should create local brand and enhance the competitiveness of ramie products.
