Gucci Launched The Changemakers Project: Three Major Initiatives To Build An Inclusive Culture And Promote Racial Unity Through Community Action
Gucci, a luxury brand in Italy, announced the launch of a global project called Changemakers. It aims to support the pformation of the fashion industry, promote racial unity through community action and build a culture of inclusiveness.
The Gucci Changemakers project currently includes three aspects: the establishment of a 5 year, total 5 million US dollar fund (The ChangemakersFund); the establishment of a 4 year, total of 1 million 500 thousand dollars Scholarship (The Gucci Changemakers Scholarship Program); the establishment of Gucci global volunteer service system.
Fund The Changemakers Fund
The Changemakers fund will invest in community projects in North American cities to build strong ties and provide opportunities for them in the African American community.
To this end, Gucci will set up a ChangemakersCouncil, a community leader and social change expert, to provide advice and support for the fund.
The purpose of the committee is to ensure pparency, accountability and long-term impact. The Committee comprises the following members:
Bethann Hardison, a fashion activist of Gucci autumn fashion show in Milan in February this year.
Activist, educator and writer Brittany Packnett;
Poet and activist Cleo Wade;
Harlem fashion designer Dapper Dan;
Activist DeRay McKesson;
University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) history and Chicano human research professor Eric Avila;
Innovation vision strategy consulting firms Ivy Inc. CEO Ivy McGregor;
Activist and writer Michaela Angela Davis;
Robert Carter, chairman and Dapper DanAtelier project manager of Gucci Internal D&I Committee (Gucci);
Gucci North American president and chief executive officer, Susan Chokachi;
Lawyer and writer Yaseen Eldik;
Yasmeen Hassan, executive director of Equality Now, an international human rights organization concerned about the rights of women and girls around the world;
Schure Media Group co founder and executive vice president Yvette Noel-Schure;
Artiste, entrepreneur and philanthropist Will.i.am.
Gucci will also appoint a diverse and inclusive global director for the reformers Committee.
The Commission will select non-profit cooperation organizations in North America such as Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Losangeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco, Toronto and Washington.
In addition to North American funds, Gucci will also set up a $5 million Changemakers fund in the Asia Pacific region in June this year.
Marco, President and chief executive officer of Gucci, said: "the model I believe in is: dialogue, bridge building, and prompt action."
That's why we need to start working on Gucci's long-term infrastructure to correct our shortcomings.
Now through the Changemakers project, we will invest important resources to unite and strengthen our communities in North America, with emphasis on projects that will affect youth and African American communities.
What we need to do is not to arouse people's negative emotions, but to reach a consensus through communication and communication.
Scholarship The Gucci Changemakers Scholarship Program
Based on the recently announced Global Multi-Cultural Design ScholarshipProgram (Gucci), the Gucci Changemakers scholarship program will further promote more talents in North America into the fashion industry through scholarships. These scholarships will be provided to students with different specialties who are interested in fashion work.
MarcoBizzarri said, "I believe in the next generation's prospects. Through this scholarship, we will also create more opportunities for talented young people of different backgrounds to enter the fashion industry."
The Changemakers Council will also select eligible students from various schools in North America to participate in the Gucci Changemakers scholarship program.
Over the next four years, the Gucci and Changemakers committees will provide $20 thousand for the selected students to complete their university education.
Volunteer service
As part of the Changemakers project, last year, Gucci announced for the first time a volunteer service plan for employees to provide a maximum of four days' paid vacation for each of the 18000 Gucci employees in the world to participate in voluntary activities in the local community.
North America is the first stop of Gucci's voluntary service, and the total number of employees in Gucci is around 2000.
The four major themes of Gucci voluntary service are equality; support for refugees and homeless; protection of the environment; and education.
Dapper Dan said: "as a partner, I am very proud to work with Gucci and other community leaders to help black groups and the entire fashion industry to create meaningful projects.
We must identify how to voice these groups at the negotiating table.
Through our joint efforts, Gucci can lead the whole industry to develop in a better and more inclusive way.
Gucci will also employ 5 new designers worldwide to work in the design office of Rome.
At present, the recruitment process has begun, and the creative director of Gucci Alessandro Michele will personally participate in the screening of the five designers.
Each designer will work with a mentor to ensure that they can seamlessly integrate into the design department's work.
Marco Bizzarri said: "we have now found about 20 candidates, and they will interview with AlessandroMichele next week.
We will also launch a staff exchange program around the world, so that more and more people will come to work in Rome.
This is actually very difficult and there are many obstacles to overcome, but we should not only focus on one culture, but understand different cultures. "
In February this year, Gucci's "black lips" shaped black long sleeved collar Barack sweater was hit by public opinion and was rushed off the shelves.
(see "ornate ambition": Gucci also stepped on the thunder! After being forced to get a black turtleneck sweater with red lips), Gucci expressed the need to enhance the cultural diversity and inclusiveness of the brand through global organizations and activities, and announced four long-term strategies last month:
It is responsible for managing diverse and inclusive executives globally and in all regions.
Create a cross-cultural design training program.
Enhance staff's understanding of diversity and inclusiveness.
Issue a global exchange project.
