A Brilliant Young Woman's Brilliant Job Search Experience
Last Sunday, I went to meet a beautiful woman who had a lot of connections with New Oriental. She is now in charge of the marketing department of a New Oriental organization.
We never talked about it, but unfortunately we didn't talk about it. But what she told me about her successful entry into the society made me feel that this guy is quite simple. She is a computer science major in Military Academy. During her study, she worked part-time as a head teacher in the New Oriental summer residence class, and actively participated in many large-scale activities in New Oriental. Therefore, I want to bring her not only some initial workshops, but also a chance to meet new principals and many ordinary workers. When she graduated, many different departments in New Oriental wanted to keep her job, but for various reasons, she decided to make a break in the society alone.
First, she wants to identify the industry she wants to enter. In the first place, she systematically analyzed her situation. According to her interest and educational background, she initially established her desire to find opportunities in four industries: entertainment, finance, education and IT. Because her strengths and interests were first considered in the entertainment industry, she launched a further investigation of the industry's information and initially locked two satellite TV stations with very influential multinational companies in the industry.
What I am talking about is her experience in applying for a position as a public relations assistant in satellite TV. I think she locked the position because she felt that she was naturally capable of dealing with people, which is a core trait for practitioners in public relations work. Other media relations and government relations resources can be established slowly, but the nature of such a public relations practitioner is not culturable, so she chooses a position suitable for her own nature to apply.
She once smiled and told me that she had confidence in her interpersonal skills and affinity, plus that she had the habit of careful preparation in advance. As long as she entered the interview, she could basically get offer. Now the question is how to solve her biggest weakness through the screening of her resume: she does not have any relevant professional background and background.

In fact, there is a legendary female head in the TV station. The reason why she wanted to join the satellite TV was because she was respected by her personal charm. Because the female boss is a famous person, the relevant information is easy to find through the search engine on the Internet. She also visited the company's website, and through various ways to understand the dynamics of the woman president and various business situations of the company.
After doing a lot of homework and studying, she did business analysis on relevant company information. From a public relations perspective, she analyzed and commented on the company's PR strategy and PR cases, and put forward some preliminary comments and suggestions. Organize these into simple words and make two Chinese and English materials. The rest is just how to deliver it to the president.
By understanding the address of the company's headquarters, she called a special expensive courier. This express business is characterized by ensuring that the delivery arrives in person in person, and the receiver needs to sign in person. At the same time, another possibly more influential satellite TV station had an especially attractive opportunity, so she declined the invitation and threw herself into another wonderful life course. In fact, this public relations assistant's experience has given her a lot of experience. In her later career, as a job seeker without corresponding professional background and without strong background, she has made many enviable job opportunities in well-known foreign enterprises. She has initially established her core competitiveness in her own business.
When I asked if she regretted not working there, she smiled and said to me, "the process is more important than the result, the process is important, and the result is natural."
What I often talk to students who talk with me is different levels of personal competitiveness. According to my rough summary, a person's competitiveness includes five levels: education, knowledge, skills, quality and characteristics. Those excellent companies really focus on some "general qualities" such as interpersonal communication skills, teamwork skills, etc. as an outstanding job seeker, more attention should be paid to the display and exertion of their own characteristics, and their nature and talents are almost unchanging. So we must find the suitable positions for them. However, most people only consider how to make "me" adapt to several limited career opportunities that are passively encountered, and seldom at the very beginning consider how to find jobs suitable for themselves. Unfortunately, most people spend too much time at the lower level. They pay too much attention to those.
So, in this excellent job search mode, she first did not go online to see what recruitment information she had, but first analyzed what industry she was going to enter, what company, and then the specific positions in these companies, which is really a great move for ordinary Chinese students.
In fact, for the leading companies, the talent reserve plan is an inevitable part of the human resources strategy. Many companies are not lack of talents, but are constantly searching for better talents. Big companies have more powerful talent absorbability, so many times, you don't need to passively apply for them when they post job information, you can use a little bit of mind to direct the door. In fact, whether this awareness is often a symbol of distinction between talented people and outstanding talents.
If she wants to apply for traditional professional positions such as doctors, accountants, lawyers and engineers, it may not be able to achieve the ultimate effect. For such general positions, especially in emerging posts and creative positions, this informal approach will be especially effective. Another common sense is that the more well-known companies, the more effective this method is, because they have a lot of media attention, many professional organizations are also studying them, public data access is particularly simple.
What I want to emphasize in particular is the ability to search for information. In fact, this is not a simple skill. It is a basic universal quality that modern professionals need. We have received two classic mail, one of them reads: "I am going to study abroad. Do you think I am going to England or America? Which university should I go to for? This is simply studying abroad. The other is even more extreme. He said, "I am going to study in a famous American school. Can you tell me the telephone number of Harvard, Standford, Princeton, California and Berkeley?" Whenever I receive such an email, I only want to cry.
In fact, the knowledge we learned in school is very limited, and eighty or ninety of it is something that can not be used in the future. The most valuable thing we can learn is probably learning ability itself. Regretfully, the traditional Chinese school education is the mode of pportation and irrigation. The learning process of students is extremely reluctant to passivity. This is the general weakness of Chinese students in how to search for information and independently analyze and judge possession data. This is an important and long-term acquisition ability, so it is an important part of the quality of talents. We know that when the pupils of the United States begin to write their compositions, many of them are investigative. They need field observation and investigation. They need to go to the library to read the materials. In this respect, we miss too many classes. In today's labor market in China, we have begun to face the globalization of open talent competition, but our education system itself is too backward and closed, and is proud of it on a very solid level. Brothers and sisters who want to stand out tomorrow in the job market must have a sense of seeing this situation.
In terms of job search skills, the example itself is fresh enough, and we advocate this model of excellence in job search.
