Shenzhen "Big Wave Cup" Women'S Costume Design Competition
Recently, with "intensive East" as the design theme, the preliminary design of the 2012 "big wave Cup" women's costume design competition hosted by the Shenzhen science, technology, industry and Trade Commission, Shenzhen Baoan District people's government, Shenzhen garment industry association and Shenzhen big wave garment industry gathering base was carried out in Beijing.

The vice chairman of the association, Wu Haiyan, Dean and doctoral tutor of the school of design, The China Academy of Art, and the jury of Professor of fashion art and Design Department of Beijing Institute Of Fashion Technology, Xie Ping, vice president Xie Yiwen of Beijing ESMOD high fashion school, made strict and serious assessment of the entries.
Finally, 20 entries, such as "fifth elements" and "40s fantasy", stand out from nearly 1000 entries.
From March 25th to May 10th, the competition organizing committee has received 725 professional and domestic design contributions, which has increased by nearly 100% compared with last year.
Xie Yiwen, who was the first judge of the "big wave Cup" women's costume design competition, told me two years ago that compared with last year, this year's participants have a wider understanding of the "Oriental" theme, not only using traditional Chinese elements such as Peking Opera mask and Chinese architecture, but also considering the selection and redesign of fabrics more meticulously and deeply.
In addition, the use of digital printing technology in line with this year's fashion trend has become a highlight of this contestant's works.
In this year's numerous entries, I found that many of the design works using origami elements were frequently taken.
In this regard, Professor Wu Haiyan gave an explanation -- origami elements were used by designers John Galliano (John Galiano) in 2007, which was frequently used by designers from all walks of life at that time. But now, the origami elements in the world have evolved to another angle. Especially in this year's Milan Furniture Exhibition held in Italy, designers have added detailed elements such as carving and so on to every "folded" interface, thus constructing a new "folding" concept. The "folding" concept in the works we are seeing now only stays in a single original ecosystem, and there is no innovation.
"This year, I was deeply impressed by the design work that we were classified as" Oriental wisdom ". It used decorative design techniques and incorporated elements of science and technology in design, which I have not seen before in the contest, and this innovation is particularly worth encouraging.
Professor Xie Ping also believes that designers should not "copy" those elements before, they should have their own aesthetic style. Every contestant should not be preoccupied with this theme when he sees the design theme of the competition. Instead, he should seek new ideas and design directions in a new way.
"Color matching is also a weak link for students nowadays."
Xie Ping said that the participants should pay attention to the relationship between "each other's clothing" in each of their series of works. This is not only about the interrelation between the colors, but also the integration of the whole series with the design concept and the story keynote in the design, otherwise it will cause the audience's visual fatigue.
At the same time, in Xie Ping's view, these problems also reflect some of the clothing colleges and universities.

Students of design major lack a correct design method, which leads them to start with the design of a single set of clothes, and then complete the whole series design by means of derivative and duplication methods. Therefore, such works will not have the overall visual concept and new ideas.
