Barbour Changes In Labor Contracts Trigger Strikes
British royal family Raincoat Barbour, a member of the Unite trade union who worked in warehouses in northern England, voted to extend its strike in January 5th to January 30th. Its strike action follows the company's plan to change the contract in December. Unite disclosed that the company paid the normal working hours and asked employees to work overtime every few weeks until 11 in the evening.
Unite Fazia Hussain-Brown, a regional staff member, said Barbour asked employees to sign a new contract, otherwise they would be fired. As of Friday, Barbour representatives could not be reached for comment.
Hussain-Brown added that the trade union has suggested that Barbour should be allowed to shift work out of care and responsibility, and those who work till night should receive the corresponding non normal working hours.
