Zhao Mingxia, vice president of Industrial Economics Research Institute of China Textile Industry Federation, revealed that in the first 20 years of the new century, the world's fiber consumption increased from 50 million tons to 110 million tons, nearly doubling. In 2020, 36% of the 110 million tons of fiber consumption is industrial textiles. "China is the fastest growing fiber consumption, which shows that the rise of emerging economies and developing countries has driven the growth of demand, but developed countries still occupy a very important position in the whole fiber consumption."

This requires China's textile industry to continue to explore new materials and new material industry chain, through the application of new materials, expand new fields.

The outline for the development of the textile industry during the 14th five year plan issued in June this year proposes to promote the upgrading of the industrial base. "At the same time, there are also some problems, such as the aggravation of resource and environment constraints, the weak ability of independent innovation, and the low added value of products," Cao Xuejun said. "Therefore, it is necessary to enhance the ability of independent innovation and to tackle key problems in weak points and short boards, so as to realize the upgrading of the industrial base."

At the same time, Gao Yong said, "China's textile industrial structure should be shifted and inclined to industrial textiles, and strive to surpass garment production capacity in the 14th Five Year Plan period or a little longer."
