Nanjing Arts Institute is located in China's most poetic fertile soil - Green Jiangnan.

A song that is sung by ancient and modern poets is flowing through the side of the school. Jiang Tao, who has been fighting for thousands of years, is beating around the school in the Qinhuai River.

The ancient capital Nanjing of the Six Dynasties provided a lush background for this art school with its unique atmosphere.

In 1912, Mr. Liu Haisu set up a fine art school in Shanghai on the Bank of the Whampoa River, leaving a legendary history for the earliest art education in China. Later, Mr. Yan Wenliang founded the Suzhou Academy of Fine Arts in the ancient city of Suzhou. After 40 years, the two schools merged with the art Department of Shandong University from the north to establish the East China Academy of art. In 1958, they moved to Nanjing, the name of which was Nanjing Arts Institute.

At present, it is still the only comprehensive higher art institution in Jiangsu Province, and it is one of the oldest art schools in China.

The design art education of Nanjing Arts Institute is as old as that of the school.

At the beginning of the Shanghai Academy of fine arts, the Department of Arts and crafts was set up. The Suzhou Academy of fine arts opened the practical arts department in 1933. The Art Department of Shandong University set up a practical art teaching group in 1951.

In 1952, after the merger of the three schools and the establishment of East China art school, a pattern teaching group was set up under the fine arts department.

In 1958, under the auspices of the vice president of the college, the famous craft artist and the professor of Arts and crafts, Professor Chen Zhifo, he set up two specialties of decoration design and dyeing and weaving design under the Department of fine arts.

In May 1981, the school formally established the Department of Arts and crafts. It has set up decoration design, dyeing and weaving art and special craft (1982, divided into two specialties: craft painting, craft carving), ceramic art (1982), dress design (1984), decoration art design (1988, original special technology pformation), lacquer art (1988), arts and crafts history, interior design, interior design, industrial design (computer) and computer art (etc.).

In 1995, it was renamed the Department of design art. In October 1999, it was officially pformed into the school of design, Nanjing Arts Institute.

After the establishment of the Academy, the undergraduate profession was further adjusted and developed into: graphic design, industrial design, environmental art design, fashion design, decoration art, pottery, lacquer art, dyeing and weaving design, multimedia design (1999), animation design (1999), jewelry design (2000), advertising planning (2000), fashion show (2003), exhibition design (2003).

At present, the school of design has 14 professional directions. It is one of the most comprehensive design education institutes in the same design institutes nationwide.

The school of design is an undergraduate student in art design, industrial design, fashion design and engineering, animation, design art, 5 two level disciplines, postgraduate students majoring in art design, design art, and doctoral candidates in art design history and design education.

At present, there are 1019 undergraduates, 84 specialist students, 9 doctoral students and 91 master students, and the total number of students is 1203.

The school of design of Nanjing Arts Institute is the only one in the province's comprehensive art colleges. It is also one of the colleges and universities with the most complete teaching level, the most extensive coverage and the most powerful faculty.

The school of design now has graphic design, industrial design, environmental art design, decorative art, dyeing and weaving, and design art department. It also has basic teaching department, computer teaching center, comic and animation teaching center, and carries out teaching in decoration, industrial design, indoor and outdoor environment, dyeing and weaving, clothing, ceramics, lacquer art, computer aided design, and design art.

The existing arts and design, industrial design, undergraduate specialty recruit four year undergraduate students and arts and crafts students.
