Li Kaifu: More Than Half Of The Investment In Innovation Workshop Has Reached Millions Of Users.

Li Kaifu, chairman and chief executive of Innovation workshop, yesterday (April 19th) attended the Tsinghua Innovation Forum. He said that the Innovation workshop has invested 28 companies in the past 18 months, of which at least half of them have reached the level of one million users. At the same time, he disclosed that in the early stage of the Innovation workshop, 80% of its energy was used to tap talents.

The Innovation workshop started at Tsinghua Science Park. Li Kaifu summed up his achievements in the past 18 months. He said that at present, 28 companies have invested in innovative workshops, totaling about 600 employees, and applied for 20 patents. According to its disclosure, at least half of these investment projects have reached the level of millions of users, and several have been invested externally.
Turning to the theme of the conference, Li Kaifu once again emphasized the important role of talents in innovation. In his view, the gap between top talent and ordinary talent may be tens of millions of times. In the early stage of entrepreneurship, Li Kaifu spent 80% of his energy on digging talents.
According to Li Kaifu's employment principle, we should first recruit the best people, rather than lower the level of "fill the office quickly". In order to attract talents, Li Kaifu will spend five meals with excellent entrepreneurs to meet and carry out ideological collisions. He laughed and said, "I have gained a lot of weight in the six months of innovation."

Li Kaifu: distinguished chairman of China, Minister Zhu, President Gu, distinguished guests, today, I am very glad to have this opportunity to share my views on the eve of the centennial celebration of Tsinghua. First of all, I want to congratulate Tsinghua on the centennial celebration. Tsinghua has contributed a lot of talents to China and the world in the past one hundred years. In every company that I used to work in, from apple, Microsoft, Google to today's Innovation workshop, the main reason came from Tsinghua and Tsinghua's past school success. I believe that in the future, we will go to independent innovation and help China's independent innovation to a higher level.
Coming here today, I feel very deeply that the Innovation workshop is also started in this building. I started the Innovation workshop 18 months ago, and faced many questions. Is it necessary to start with the coaching and incubating mode? I am very glad that in the past 18 months, we have made 28 investments and invested 28 companies, and these 28 companies have six hundred employees, and these six hundred employees have done a lot of innovation and entrepreneurship. At least half of them have a level of millions of users, and several of them have already received fairly good investments. Most importantly, the 28 companies have applied for 20 patents in the past few months. Of course, speaking so much, we know that this is just a mark of a stage, and it does not represent any success. But at least we can take the first step out, and look back over the past 18 months, and thank Tsinghua University, Tsinghua Science and Technology Park as well as the director Xu and Meishan, who are here, for their support to us, as well as the support of the Beijing municipal government. What I want to share today is about entrepreneurship in the past 18 months, as well as some insights gained from the work of three great companies over the past 18 years, and some insights from these insights on today's theme.
In fact, I think everyone here today has the same dream. I hope China can achieve independent innovation, hope it can be made in China, and the products created by China will go all over the world. I hope China can go from a manufacturing powerhouse to a strong country in entrepreneurship. After reflection and reflection over the past 18 months, there are also some reflections on the past 18 years of working together with the most leading foreign companies and the most leading American entrepreneurs. I think in fact, these innovations create creative businesses. They have the core idea. I want to share with you today about talents. Because I feel that any speech, especially 15 to 20 minutes, is impossible to talk about too much content. There is a theme. What do you want to say to Li Kaifu today? What does Ma Yun say? I hope it will be China's way to the future, innovation and creation, and the need for talent. Although Tsinghua has made many progress, we can do better together in terms of talent.
Why is it so important for talents to create and create businesses? In fact, today we enter the information age. Many success is achieved in the manufacturing industry, so we will see things in the way of manufacturing thinking. But in this era, the difference between them is only 30% to 50%, but in the information age, the gap between a top talent and ordinary talent may be one hundred times, maybe one thousand times, or ten thousand times. Sometimes a top talent can do it, and you can't do one thousand ordinary talents. You must pay more attention to talents.
Speaking of talents, I can talk about some of my views and studies in the past three foreign companies as well as in innovative workshops. What is the first thing about talents? It is recruiting talents and recruiting the best talents. I have learned very good rules in several foreign companies. In one word, everyone you hire should improve the team's average level. For example, there are ten people who are better than tenth. He has passed the customs. But if you work in an innovative and entrepreneurial company with the best talents, you should have higher standards. In addition, a very first-class person will hire first-class people, second class people will hire three people, so your company has second class people when you come in, your team is going to three. A first-rate person, he is confident enough to find someone who is as good as himself or someone who is stronger than himself. Because I am very confident in myself, an ordinary person, a relatively poor person, he will hope to find someone he can control, obedient, disciplined, unthinking, obedient. When you find a second class person coming in, he will find three more people. Also, do not believe that the employer who employs the manager has one drawback, that is, to fill the office, someone is better than nobody. He felt that I could only fill the office quickly if I had to lower the level, because these people could work after all. As your entrepreneur, you must have the courage to ensure that your manager has reached the level of the company. This matter can not be arbitrarily delegate to your manager. Enterprises in foreign countries have been accepted, but entrepreneurship in China may sound relatively new. I hope that through today's forum, such a concept can be spread, and innovative enterprises can borrow and quote locally advanced, and I think it is reasonable.
How do innovative workshops apply these aspects? For example, if we find a great entrepreneur, we may meet him three times, five times, and do everything possible to meet him. I can think of at least five people, and I have had five meals with them. Six months after the Innovation workshop, I gained a lot of weight. Recently, I developed very well, and many partners helped me to eat. But five people five meals is very important, because at least two came to us. One of them was Xu Zhaojun, who also did very well in the social field. In fact, people had to collide. This kind of practice has been used in Microsoft Apple or Google, as well as in innovation works. We also attach importance to the next year's graduates. Last year I called at least 60 graduating students. I hope they will join our company. I will call their parents. When your child is 25 years old, she has read nearly 20 years of books. Her parents should let go of their power to join in. I am not complaining about what I do. I think it is worth it. I will also communicate with 60 or even 100 college students this year, not to persuade or mislead them to innovate the workshops, but to help them find the right direction for their psychological development. If it is entrepreneurship or participation in entrepreneurship, then come over. If we join a big company, we will encourage it, so this is a very important thing for me to be very talented and worth doing. I think every enterprise leader should spend at least 20% of the new talents in the field. At the beginning of the Innovation workshop, I spend at least 80% of my energy.
Now let's talk about management talents. How do people manage when they come in? First of all, I do not want to manage my proposal, especially not to worry about it. Because we need to talk about it. As a company leader, you are a smart person. When 30 or 50 years old, when you are 25 years old, what kind of leaders you like and manage your team with the way you want to be managed is very important. Because smart people want to be trusted and let go. In that case, when you are young, you also want to be trusted to be empowered, so the company leaders must remember to trust and delegate power. Another small company is getting bigger and bigger, and the leader must personally experience every decision. This is very bad, which prevents the development of your excellent staff. When a company becomes bigger, the responsibility of CEO should be to create a good environment, responsible for the culture of the company, and also grasp the direction of the company's development. Now I see Mr. Ma Yun, who is here in every field of China, in this respect, at least from outside, we see that he has done a very good job. Find the right people and put them in the right place. As leaders of the company, you can manage the culture and the company environment and manage them with the way they want to be managed.
There are talents entering the company. What does he want to get? Perhaps the secular view is that people are for money, for fame, for fame and wealth, but in fact it is not. Those most talented people deeply understand that when he was young, he could learn, grow and get training. This is far more important than fame and gain in the short term. Even if you like fame and gain, you are just beginning to get out of the first step, and this kind of training is still the most important. So as a company leader, we should spend more time to provide more opportunities. This is not just a chance to provide training. Many foreign companies spend five thousand US dollars training for a year in China, but we have to see which companies are willing to really take risks, let a young man take charge of a very large product and direction, and then bet on him. The most successful product of Google is Gmail, a graduate of University. He said that you are the manager of this project. He was horrified, but he did very well. He is also very honest about his mistakes and learning from the people around him. So in the Innovation workshop, we also put forward the concept of participating in Entrepreneurship and then leading the business. Because many college students are looking at many successful entrepreneurs who think they are their own idols and want to learn from them. I wrote a letter to them, I believe you will have many entrepreneurs in the future, but what you learned at university can not make you do all the preparation, so you have to learn to start a business. If you want to learn business, you can come to a small business. After participation, learning and participation, you can learn how to start a business. So in the innovation factory, we want to provide the environment, that is, in the early stage of a company, a graduate just joined, maybe the company has five people, everyone has to learn everything, have to do it, this indirectly has done a good job of training everyone. In a large company, it may take six months to spanfer to another department for a year to learn. Maybe we have heard that before a person makes CEO, he will do sales first and then do the market. But in a small company, if you join a company with only five people in a start-up company, you will do anything. Finally, you will learn and will soon become an integrated talent.
Finally, I suggest that the leaders of the company should tell all managers a concept that the company's talents belong to the company and not belong to you. Because the manager has second disadvantages. The first is to fill the office, and the second is to monopolize talents. I have a wonderful person, I hide him, afraid of being dug away, but as an excellent manager, let you know where the talent is, Microsoft is doing very well in this respect. Microsoft's CEO has a manual of six hundred people every year. It has to turn over before going to sleep. It will understand the direction of the development of the six hundred people deeply. When the company is being spanferred, it will not be a vertical type, but it can see the best talents in the whole company.
These are the important trends I have seen in talent training in three multinational enterprises and innovation workshops. Finally, I would like to share some suggestions for Tsinghua to all schools. If we aim at talents, the ultimate goal is innovation and entrepreneurship. This needs the best talents. We talked about what many enterprises can do in the enterprise. In the end, I want to talk about what colleges and universities can do. I hope colleges and universities can provide more internship opportunities, because only learning can practice. I hope professor can put students in summer to experience what they are practicing, not just learning knowledge in books. Second I hope that more colleges and universities can help students understand themselves and understand their interests and talents. When I asked 60 students, 50 of them didn't know. When he didn't know himself, it was a pity. Too many students still, third I suggested team cooperation. In the school examination cooperation was cheating, but in the enterprise, the team failed, and the first person was useless. Fourth I hope that more students will have the chance to learn critical thinking, and ask me what is the use of learning this stuff. They are allowed to ask, be encouraged to ask why, why not, and how to let students know that everything is not just one view, there are many views to see the world. In this world, 99.9% things have different views. This is very important in the field of high technology. Fifth because there is not only one point of view, I hope more teachers will move from a missionary teacher to a coaching teacher to help students dig out their interests and directions instead of blindly following their own thinking. In the end, I suggest that the comprehensive talent is very important because of the diversity of talents, especially the leading talent of the enterprise, and the comprehensive and pluralistic representation of the multi domain knowledge, help students not too much knowledge, so that more students can experience a kind of foreign liberal education, more students who can cross the field, such as business school and computer school to do a project, from which they can learn and become comprehensive talents.
