According to the 2012 world investment report released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and development (UNCTAD) in July, foreign direct investment inflows to Southeast Asia in 2011 amounted to US $117 billion, an increase of 26% over the previous year, while China's growth rate was less than 8% in the same period.
Another report from UNCTAD pointed out that the relative competitiveness of ASEAN countries in footwear manufacturing continued to increase because of the rising wage and production costs in East Asia, especially in China.
Many experts say that seeking cheaper costs and avoiding trade barriers are the two main reasons for the footwear industry's pfer to ASEAN.
At present, China has entered the middle stage of industrialization, and the eastern region has entered the late stage of industrialization.
In the later stage of industrialization, the price of land and labor will rise, and the environmental load will increase.
At present, the average per capita GDP of Southeast Asian countries is only 3000 US dollars, which is still in the early stage of industrialization, and the cost in all respects is relatively low, which provides an opportunity for industrial pfer.

At present, the footwear industry is taking the whole process of production from a single enterprise, and the product value chain has been completed in different production workshops of an enterprise. It has been pformed into "multinational enterprises' decomposition of the product value chain to the supporting cooperative enterprises in different countries, and the production process is completed by a number of enterprises in the world."
