Where Are The Differences Between Male And Female Bosses?
From the board of directors to the negotiating table, the emergence of more and more women has broken the monopoly of men in the commercial field, and proved their existence by practical action.
As an absolute ruler in a commercial society, how do men evaluate the female business leaders who break in today, and how do women adapt to a commercial world that originally belonged to men?
In view of the issue of gender differences in business leaders, Chinese entrepreneur magazine recently conducted a questionnaire survey of male and female business leaders.
The results show that male leaders prefer to think about the future while women are more pragmatic.
Judging from the evaluation of men and women entrepreneurs, men's evaluation of women is lower than that of women, and women do not seem to be confident in doing business leadership.
Female entrepreneurs in the eyes of men: dedicated but lacking in foresight, male entrepreneurs in the eyes of women: strong competitiveness, but lack of honesty and credit. For female entrepreneurs, what they admire most is their professionalism.
According to the results of the survey, in a scoring system that includes 19 abilities / qualities related to business management and a score of 7 points, the highest score of male entrepreneurs for female entrepreneurs is "dedication", with a score of 5.714 points, while the second and third ranks are "integrity" and "public relations ability", respectively, with 5.429 points and 5.389 points respectively.
In the eyes of female entrepreneurs, the best "ability / quality" of male entrepreneurs is their "competitiveness". Women entrepreneurs score 5.886 high points, followed by "vision and insight" and "dedication", with 5.706 points and 5.629 points respectively.
Comparing the scores of male and female entrepreneurs, the ability of women entrepreneurs is far from enough.
The score of this item is significantly lower than that of men, with only 3.471 points, the lowest score for male entrepreneurs.
According to the evaluation of female entrepreneurs, the male entrepreneurs' ability to foresee the future is significantly stronger than that of women. Compared with 5.706 points scored by male entrepreneurs and 2.235 points higher than that of female entrepreneurs, male entrepreneurs are the biggest difference between male and female entrepreneurs.
But compared with female entrepreneurs, male entrepreneurs are slightly less trustworthy. In terms of "integrity", women entrepreneurs score 5.429 points, while male entrepreneurs get only 4.914 points and 0.514 points lower, which is the biggest difference between male entrepreneurs and female entrepreneurs.
According to the scoring results, in all the 19 ability / quality evaluation, the lowest score difference between men and women entrepreneurs is "financial ability", of which male entrepreneurs get 5.088 points, while female entrepreneurs get 5.083 points, with a difference of 0.005 points.
In the view of female entrepreneurs, the male entrepreneurs' ability of "personnel management" and "communication" is relatively weak. On these two items, female entrepreneurs only score 4.657 points and 4.771 points for male entrepreneurs, ranking respectively in the last and second positions of male entrepreneurs.
The lowest score of female entrepreneurs is "decision and plan" and "innovation ability" except for "foresight and insight". The score is 3.743 points, ranking second in the last.
Generally speaking, the male entrepreneurs' evaluation of female entrepreneurs is obviously low in the 19 evaluations of male and female entrepreneurs.
With all the scores scored, the average score of 19 women entrepreneurs is only 4.486 points, while the average score of male entrepreneurs is 5.260 points.
In male entrepreneurs' evaluation of female entrepreneurs, only 5 points scored above 5 points, while 5 were below 4 points.
But there were 15 women entrepreneurs scoring 5 points or more, and none of them scored below 4 points.
The management style difference between male and female: male: to manage the future women: to take care of the present, whether male entrepreneurs or female entrepreneurs believe that men and women do have gender differences in management style.
Of all the male and female entrepreneurs surveyed, 88.89% of men and 83.33% of women entrepreneurs affirmed the difference.
In terms of management content, male entrepreneurs and female entrepreneurs pay more attention to business strategy and business related matters, but male entrepreneurs are better at thinking about the future of enterprises, while female entrepreneurs pay more attention to the current business.
On the whole, male entrepreneurs focus more on strategic decisions and business matters, while female entrepreneurs are more distracted. Apart from the less concerned about the future direction of development, other tasks such as administration, personnel and public relations have distracted their attention.
There are also some differences between male and female entrepreneurs in understanding the competitive advantage of enterprises.
Compared with women, male entrepreneurs pay more attention to the capital strength of enterprises, while female entrepreneurs value the market share, technological superiority and scale of enterprises more.
Among all the leaders surveyed, the ratio of male entrepreneurs to capital strength was 12.12%, while that of women was only 9.09%.
However, women entrepreneurs who believe that the competitive advantage of enterprises is reflected in the market share is about 9 percentage points higher than that of men.
There are differences between male and female entrepreneurs in the choice of "leader's ability / quality".
In the view of female entrepreneurs, the abilities and qualities that leaders must possess are "decision-making and planning ability", "foresight and insight" and "ability to select and cultivate talents". The median selection rates are 47.22%, 44.44% and 44.44% respectively. In male entrepreneurs, these three abilities / qualities are "foresight and insight", "decision making and planning ability" and "communication and interpersonal communication ability". The median selection rates are 51.43%, 48.57% and 40% respectively.
Compared with the choice of male and female entrepreneurs, female entrepreneurs pay more attention to the selection and training of talents, which is about 22 percentage points higher than that of male entrepreneurs 22.86%.
The neglect of talent selection and cultivation ability of male entrepreneurs is reflected in the serious shortage of talents in the current management of enterprises.
Of all the surveyed entrepreneurs, 44.12% of male entrepreneurs admit that the shortage of talent is the most serious problem they face. In the view of female enterprises, although 22.86% of women think that talent is also the most serious problem they face at present, it has dropped by 20 percentage points compared with men.
Women entrepreneurs lack confidence in their relationship with male entrepreneurs. Similarly, female entrepreneurs also believe that the lack of predictive ability for the future is the main problem that troubles them in business operations.
Among all the entrepreneurs surveyed, 22.86% of female entrepreneurs admitted that they lacked the ability to predict the future, compared with 5.88% of male entrepreneurs, which was about 17 percentage points higher.
Besides the lack of predictive power for the future, women entrepreneurs have less confidence than men entrepreneurs.
Of all the surveyed entrepreneurs, 2.86% of the female entrepreneurs felt that the problem they faced at present was their lack of confidence in their management ability, while the proportion of male entrepreneurs who considered themselves lacking in self-confidence was "0".
The lack of confidence in their ability to manage is also reflected in the gender positioning of business leaders. None of the surveyed female entrepreneurs believes that women are more suitable than men to be leaders.
Men are more confident on this issue. 41.67% of male entrepreneurs believe that men are more suitable than women to be corporate leaders.
The reason why entrepreneurs become entrepreneurs is that they are industrious and talented. Women: diligence and opportunity, the lack of self-confidence in leadership positions may stem from the view of ideal career.
Of all the entrepreneurs surveyed, 44.44% of female entrepreneurs admit that business leaders are not their ideal careers. For example, Wang Jiafen, chairman and general manager of Guangming dairy joint stock company, admitted that their ideal career is to be a teacher.
Compared with women, male entrepreneurs are more confident in their career orientation and role identification than female entrepreneurs.
Of all the entrepreneurs surveyed, 57.14% of the men affirmed that becoming a business leader is their ideal.
When it comes to how to become a business leader, both the male entrepreneurs and the female entrepreneurs regard diligence as the main reason. However, compared with other choices of male and female entrepreneurs, men tend to attribute their current achievements to their personal efforts. 17.65% of men believe that being able to be an enterprise leader is their talent and a ratio of 8 percentage points higher than that of women.
However, 28.13% of female entrepreneurs believe that being able to become an enterprise leader is an opportunity.
The first is women, and then managers. Should women keep women's character in management?
As the world's first woman CEO, Hewlett-Packard Co chairman and CEO Carly, "once I am a manager, then I am a woman."
But in the eyes of Chinese entrepreneurs, a woman entrepreneur is a woman first and then a manager.
Of all the entrepreneurs surveyed, 60% of men and women entrepreneurs believe that women should maintain their female character in management.
It is worth noting, however, that women are more concerned about their sex differences with men. 31.43% of female entrepreneurs believe that women's characteristics should be diluted in management, which is about 6 percentage points higher than that of men.
What are the differences between women and men in personality traits?
According to the data from the questionnaire, although male entrepreneurs or female entrepreneurs regard "tenacity" and "pragmatism" as the character traits of a business leader, men are more optimistic and cautious on the basis of these two characteristics, while women are more sensitive and flexible.
Women are more important than family members. For women, no matter how successful they are in their careers, family and family status is very important.
In the view of career and family, 14.29% of female entrepreneurs believe that family is more important than career, while only 2.86% of women entrepreneurs think that career is more important than family.
But in the view of male entrepreneurs, this figure is just the opposite. 14.29% of male entrepreneurs believe that career is more important than family, and that only 5.71% of male entrepreneurs are more important than family.
Similarly, when answering the main reason for becoming an entrepreneur, 3.31% of female entrepreneurs believe that they can become a business leader, mainly due to their family support, but the male entrepreneur who answered this question is "0".
